Why are the Dutch so tall? BBC News

The Dutch are, on average, the world's tallest people, but it hasn't always been that way. So what happened? Scientists believe a number of factors are responsible, such as genetics, better diet and medical care. But now there's another theory. Venezuela crisis: Where families buy rotten meat to eat - BBC News

04:46
Millions of Venezuelans have left the country in the last two years, fleeing the oil-rich nation’s economic collapse. Shortages of food and basic goods, years of recession, soaring inflation and regular power shortages have left the country almost on its knees. The government says those against the socialist President Nicolas Maduro are waging an "economic war" – but many within and outside the country blame his policies, combined with corruption and mismanagement. One of the most affected areas is the state of Zulia, long known as the centre of the country's oil industry. The BBC’s Vladimir Hernandez is one of the few international journalists who has been able to report from the state. Produced by Herminia Fernandez, filmed by Omar Garcia. Edited by Kelvin Brown. The love story that shocked the world - BBC News

When an African prince and a white middle-class clerk from Lloyd's underwriters got married in 1948, it provoked shock in Britain and Africa. Seretse Khama met Ruth Williams while he was a student at Oxford University. After his studies, he was supposed to go home to the British Protectorate of Bechuanaland (now Botswana) and marry someone from his own tribe, but his romance with Williams changed everything. His family disapproved and Khama was forced to renounce his claim to the throne. The British government came under pressure to show its disapproval and Khama was exiled from his homeland. He later became the first president of Botswana when it became an independent country. Witness spoke to Ruth Williams's sister about the love that conquered prejudice. 03:36
Russia domestic abuse: In December 2017, Margarita Gracheva's husband took her into a forest and cut her hands off with an axe. Her case has highlighted activists' fears that the softening of Russia's laws applying to domestic violence may be emboldening abusers. First offences where the victim is not hospitalised are no longer treated as criminal offences and penalties have been reduced, under legal changes brought in in February 2017.
