Its all part of the healing journey, I suppose, as there is no better way of knowing than doing. I think as this year, the hawthorn berries came late due to the poor summer in Ireland, I didn’t get a chance to pick them. Hawthorn is my favorite herb for the heart and as we have heart disease in the family, on the O’Brien’s side, I just love my heart herbs. They not only work on the physical level but also on the emotional level. So in the rhythm of this year, I have rediscovered cayenne as my heart herb of the moment. Once you get over that first kiss, its love all the way. I am addicted to cayenne at the moment! Let have a look at this herb in more detail. The name “cayenne” derives from the name of a town in French Guiana. A fiery spice, cayenne pepper is a variety of chilli, which was first introduced into the West in the sixteenth century. Its active constituent capsaicin is a warming stimulant and a powerful remedy for poor circulation, helping to dilate blood vessels and increase the blood supply to all parts of the body. Capsaicin also signals the brain to release endorphins, the body’s “feel good” hormones. Cayenne pepper also offers great cardiovascular benefits by helping to revitalise the veins and arteries so that they regain youthful elasticity. The pepper also strengthens the heart and regulates blood pressure, helping to prevent strokes and heart attacks. Dr. Christopher a well-known and much loved herbalist of the mid-twentieth century, recommended it both as first aid fro a heart attack and as a tonic to strengthen the heart. Recent scientific studies done in the United States and India show that cayenne lowers cholesterol and may help reduce the severity of heart disease. A rich source of vitamins A and C, as well as many of the B – vitamins, cayenne pepper is useful for everything from eye health to immune function, and healthy skin to good memory. Dr. Christopher uses cayenne in his eye formula! Cayenne comes with a warning. Don’t touch your eyes when handling cayenne, as it will burn. CBD for depression, 13 clinical studies indicate the use of CBD oil for depression. The Chinese were the first to appreciate the medicinal properties of his the cannabis plant. Literature from this period suggests that cannabis was recommended for absent mindedness, rheumatic pains, constipation and disorders of the female reproductive tract. Chinese doctors used every part of the plant, including the seeds, stalks, oil, roots and leaves. The drug was administered in pills and in various porridge style pastes. Cannabis was also used in Ayurvedic medicine which originated in India. Cannabis increases 'gastric fire' or digestion. The first major work to lay out the uses of cannabis in medicine was the Ayurvedic treatise of Sushruta Samhita written in 600 BC. This book described over 700 plant based medicines. In Western medicine basing their knowledge on the Greek and Roman physicians Dioscorides and Galen, medieval herbalists in the West recommended cannabis for a variety of cures including coughs, jaundices, and bed wetting. In 1693 English painter and author William Salmon wrote that the seeds, leaves and juice of cannabis, plus essence and decoctions were all widely available in pharmacists shops. Later William O'Shaughnessy (1809-1889) Assistant Surgeon and Professor of Chemistry at the medical college in Calcutta published a paper entitled 'On the Preparations of the Indian Hemp or Gunjah, their effects on the Animal System of Health and their Utility in the treatment of Tetanus and other convulsive diseases. The US Pharmacopeia would continue to list cannabis until 1941. But whereas up to the 1930s cannabis was seen as a positive, useful medicine, in 1936, under the bombardment of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, negative campaign, the experts capitulated to ignorance and propaganda, and it was downgraded. The war on drugs and the war on cannabis continues. However through the power of new media, people movements, and intelligent scientists, attitudes are changing quickly. There is a growing body of evidence for cannabis in the treatment of numerous diseases from cancer to depression. Its also a hypnotic and so a useful treatment for insomnia Kava helps to improve the quality of sleep significantly it reduces active wakefulness and significantly prolongs sleep, compared with placebo Unlike prescription drugs for anxiety, kava does not appear to interfere with mental alertness, up set the stomach, or foster a dependency on the herb. Research shows that curcumin influences many factors involved in anxiety and depression. Curcumin can help balance serotonin, dopamine, glutamate, and noradrenaline. Garlic Garlic is a superfood for improving health and preventing disease. Its an adaptogen herb that has antioxidant and anti inflammatory affects. Adaptogenic herbs are said to help your body cope with physical and emotional stress. A study in 2009 found that Shatavari has significant antidepressant activity and this effect is probably mediated through neurotransmitters in the brain that affect mood. Today I'm bringing you another research study that shows herbs can be effective for the treatment of anxiety. The study was carried out in 2010, and published in the Nutrition Journal. Study link: http://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1475-2891-9-42 Anxiety affects millions of people throughout the world, and if you're suffering anxiety, I hope you find this video useful because it's our alternatives to medications. Anxiety is a constant state of worry where you can't relax, you're always on alert, always thinking so many negative is gonna happen, and that negative thinking is controlling you and controlling your behaviour. The problem of Benzodiazepines is they come with many unwanted side effects such as suicidal ideation, decreased alertness and drowsiness, sexual dysfunction, and dependence. Benzodiazepines are only supposed to be subscribed for four weeks. Many doctors allow their patients to go on months or allowing repeat prescription for months on end, even years. People become dependent on them, and sometimes they end up on other drugs at the same time to deal with the side effects of the Benzodiazepines. Many people are now turning to alternatives such as herbal medicine and natural treatments for the treatment of anxiety as the evidence base increases, and as people get tired of the Benzodiazepines, their ineffectiveness, or their unwanted side effects. The first herb was passion flower, and passion flower was found in the evidence to be as effective as Benzodiazepines in the treatment of anxiety. I have a video in my channel if you want to check it out on passion flower where I went more depth on the power of passion flower in the treatment of anxiety. Number two is kava. Kava is a drink that's prepared from the plant, piper methysticum. It's used in many cultures because it's known for its effectiveness in reducing restlessness, anxiety, and nervous tension. Third one, they found evidence for Saint John's wort. Saint John's wort has been widely studied. Saint John's wort has been used as a medicine for centuries because of its known effect on nervous conditions such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, and nervousness. In Germany, it's widely used and prescribed by doctors. It's licenced for the use of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Caution on Saint John's wort as it does interfere with other med so if you are on any medications, always consult with your doctor. Number four is lysine. It's an amino acid that influences the neurotransmitters involved in regulating stress and anxiety. And number five is magnesium. Magnesium is a positively charged ion that is involved in many of the molecular functions that influence the body's response to stress and anxiety so if you are low on magnesium, it's possible that by increasing your intake of magnesium through natural foods, you might also have tackled your anxiety. Herbal remedies for a methadone detox

In Ireland methadone is sometimes called liquid handcuffs as users feel trapped and bound to their clinic and the life that surrounds collecting their methadone often on a daily basis. First thing is to remember if you are thinking about coming off any medications you should talk to your prescribing doctor first. The information in this video is for educational purposes only. And you should consult with a herbalist before going on a course of herbs. Methadone is an opioid medication and substitute drug for people dependent on heroin. Methadone helps people stop using heroin. However methadone is addictive and many users end up on methadone for years. When users want to come off methadone, they struggle with the withdrawal symptoms and risk relapse and overdose if they use heroin during a methadone detox. Methadone on its own is a relatively safe drug. The problem is that many methadone users are also on a cocktail of prescribed drugs including benzodiazepines and sleeping pills on top of their methadone. Many die before getting an opportunity to come off methadone. Herbal medicine can play an important role in supporting people to over come their addiction to methadone and other drugs. So here are some of the herbs that I can use to help someone with the withdrawal symptoms as they are tapered off methadone over a period of a year. Most people with obsessive-compulsive disorder have both obsessions and compulsions, but some people experience just one or the other. How to make seed milk at home. Pumpkin seeds are one of the highest plant-based sources of protein containing all essential amino acids. A handful of pepitas makes up almost half of the recommended daily allowance of protein. Pepitas are also a rich source of iron, with one cup delivering almost half of the RDA of iron.
