My experience with antidepressants

03:03
I made a video about going on antidepressants. Here's my experience so far. WATCH MY LAST VIDEO ▶ https://youtu.be/Sph7kCxlNZo I made a video about my decision to go on antidepressants. After several months of being on them, I can say that they've made a tremendous impact on my life. I've been clinically depressed for years, but have refused to get on medication due to my own stigma against seeking help for mental health. I hope that this video helps destigmatize some of the issues surrounding depression and encourages those who need help to seek it - whether that's therapy, healthy lifestyle changes, or seeing a doctor to inquire about medication. Medications for Depression & Bipolar | Robert D. McMullen, MD

Robert D. McMullen, MD about Medications for Depression & Bipolar http://tmsbraincare.com/medications-bipolar-depression-hd-video/ Medications for treatment of Depression & Bipolar disorders Major depressive disorder is also known as major depression, clinical depression, or unipolar depression. The term unipolar refers to the presence of one pole, or one extreme of mood- depressed mood. This may be compared with bipolar depression which has the two poles of depressed mood and mania (i.e., euphoria, heightened emotion and activity). Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) causes serious shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behavior—from the highs of mania on one extreme, to the lows of depression on the other These are of 2 types • Bipolar I disorder involves periods of severe mood episodes from mania to depression. The highs may even require hospitalization of the person. • Bipolar II disorder is a milder form of mood elevation, involving milder episodes of hypomania that alternate with periods of severe depression The depression that people with bipolar disorder experience is generally of a melancholic or psychotic type and therefore more biological in its nature. The depression found in these bipolar patients can be difficult to treat than unipolar depression as the antidepressants can cause them to have greater mood swings. These patients need to be on mood-stabilizing drugs. The antidepressants alone can actually increase the manic episodes and worsen the disorder. Antidepressants: divided into three main classes: • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - were developed in the 1980's and are the most common prescribed today. They are sold under brand names such as Prozac, Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, Celexa • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) There are three types of MAOIs, phenelzine,(Nardil) isocarboxazid and tranylcypromine, ( Parnate) and moclobemide.) • Tricyclic drugs (TCAs). (sold as Amitriptyline, Imipramine) For effective control and to limit the side effects a combination can be used such as Wellbutrin (or bupropion). Mechanisms of action are different hence lower doses of both help control side effects. The combination of Zoloft and wellbutruim earned the popular name Welloft. The MAO inhibitors are more effective than the SSRI drugs. But can cause severe weight gain and therefore patients need to work on diet control, else the spike in blood pressure can be dangerous. They are contraindicated with drugs that work on serotonin. Lamictal (or Lamotrigine) was FDA approved for treating depression in 2003.The main advantage being, no sexual dysfunction, no sexual side effects and no weight gain. There is no sedative effect and dosage is generally much less than used for seizures. If any of the above mentioned combinations are ineffective in controlling depression, the thyroid hormone replacement drug Cytopan or Cytomel or Synthroid can be added to any of the above drug. Atypical anti-psychotics such as low doses of Zyprexa, or Abilify, or Seroquel, and the latest Quetiapine can also be prescribed. 150 mg of Lithium, normally prescribe for Bipolar at much higher doses, can be used safely without having to get regular blood checks. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Serotonin, or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), is a neurotransmitter involved in many brain and body functions and is commonly known as the substance of well-being and happiness. Serotonin is produced in specialized neurons found mostly in the Raphe nuclei located along the midline of the brainstem. The axons of these neurons form extensive serotonergic pathways that reach almost every part of the central nervous system, including the cerebellum and the spinal cord. This is why it’s not surprising that serotonin is implicated in a vast array of brain functions, including sleep and wake cycle, appetite, mood regulation, memory and learning, temperature control, … among others. Serotonin is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan and is stored in small vesicles within the nerve terminal. When a serotonergic neuron is stimulated, serotonin is released into the synaptic cleft where it binds to and activates serotonin-receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. Serotonin action is then TERMINATED via removal of its molecules from the synaptic space. This is accomplished through a special protein called serotonin-transporter. Low levels of serotonin in the brain have been associated with depressive disorders and current treatments for depression aim to increase these levels. The most commonly prescribed medications, called “selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors”, or SSRIs, act by blocking serotonin reuptake by the transmitting neurons. This results in elevated levels of serotonin in the synaptic space and its prolonged action on the receiving neuron. The SSRIs have developed into the drugs of choice because they produce fewer side effects thanks to their selective action on serotonin alone and no other neurotransmitters. Unfortunately, because serotonin is involved in a wide range of brain functions, the side effects remain significant and may progress to a potentially dangerous condition known as "serotonin syndrome". This syndrome is generally caused by a combination of two or more drugs used to raise the serotonin levels in the brain. If the medications are not discontinued, the condition may become fatal. Nonpharmacologic methods of raising brain serotonin have shown promising results in recent studies. It has been suggested that positive mood induction, either self-induced or due to psychotherapy, correlates with INCREASED serotonin synthesis in the brain. The interaction between serotonin synthesis and mood may therefore be 2-way, with serotonin influencing mood and mood influencing serotonin. Other methods include exposure to bright light and tryptophan-rich diets. To note, however, that serotonin-rich food such as bananas would NOT work because serotonin, unlike tryptophan, can NOT cross the blood brain barrier. Finally, although it sounds like a cliché, physical exercise maybe the most effective and safest way of improving mood. Several studies suggest that serotonin levels are increased with vigorous physical activity and that these elevated levels are maintained for several days after the exercise.

How To Fix Depression, Anxiety, Panic attack, and Stress, Naturally?

15:26
Discover why Dr. Sam Robbins, health expert, recommends ProVanax™, for reducing anxiety, panic attacks, and depression, naturally. http://drsam.co/yt/FixDepression-ProVanax ******** How To Fix Depression, Anxiety, Panic attack, and Stress, Naturally? ******* Have you noticed in life that some people tend generally just to be happy, positive people? They laugh more; they seem confident and hopeful about life. They can handle stressful situations well, and stay calm and cool. Why someone is skinny or fat or how one person ages poorly and looks old while another still looks and feels young at age 50 or 60 and beyond. Why one person is usually happy while another typically get is “stressed out” easily and feels negative emotions like depression, anxiety, panic attack, and stress. Most of this is usually, related to genetics and your hormones and brain neurotransmitters. There are 3 primary hormones and neurotransmitters we want to control (Dopamine, Serotonin and Cortisol), which can help make dramatic improvements in your mood, happiness, and sense of well-being. Unfortunately, because of today’s extra stressful life-styles, it is estimated that 87% of the population has chronically elevated cortisol. If you don’t do something to fix this “negative state” and after a few weeks or months of “stress” you notice you look and feel older, more fat around your belly, more wrinkles or fine lines on your face, more aches and pains etc. The great part is that with simple and minor adjustments you can make a dramatic improvement in both how you look and feel, sometimes almost instantly! There are specific herbs, vitamins, and amino acids that do work in improving their levels, which results in improvement in both mental and physical well-being. The most effective natural remedies that are clinically proven to work quickly and safely for long-term usage: 1. Phenibut - increases Dopamine and reduces Cortisol (“stress hormone”) 2. 5-HTP – increases Serotonin (“happy hormone”) 3. St. John's Wort – a natural antidepressant 4. Passion Flower & Valerian Extract – creates natural calmness. 5. Inositol, Magnesium and L-Taurine 6. L-Theanine – which is found in green tea, helps reduce stress and Cortisol levels. 7. Phosphatidylserine, Ashwagandha and Vitamin C – reduce the stress hormone, Cortisol. 8. GABA – helps “calm” your nervous system and creates relaxation. These individual ingredients work much better when combined together because there is a special “synergy”, which creates better results without any negative side-effects. How you can get control over all of this by utilizing natural solutions and not have to rally on addictive and harmful drugs. Forget about using anti-anxiety or anti-depression drugs, Let’s Do This Naturally! If you want to try something natural that works quickly - Try ProVanax™ who contains all of these key ingredients, in one simple pill. The feedback has been amazing and since the product has been around for almost a decade, you know it works! Medication | antidepressants for knee oa

02:47
https://www.arthritistreatmentcenter.com Antidepressants for osteoarthritis? Next Study Will Assess Antidepressant for Treating Knee Osteoarthritis Bill Schu writing for MD reported a New Zealand study announced in Trials will examine whether the antidepressant nortriptyline can safely and effectively treat knee osteoarthritis (OA). The medication is inexpensive and readily available, and it is well-tolerated in patients treated for depression. Because knee OA has no known cure, pharmacologic interventions are focused on pain relief and promotion of function. Initial management consists of patient education, exercise and weight loss, but many patients also require analgesics typically in the form of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or opioids. NSAIDS are well known to reduce pain, but they also significantly increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding, and are associated with cardiovascular events. Thus, their long-term use is contraindicated in many patients. Opioids, in some studies, have been no more effective than placebo for knee OA patients. Recent trials of the serotonin and noradrenalin reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) venlafaxine and duloxetine have shown statistically and clinically significant reductions in pain in patients with OA. Comment: This certainly reduces the pill burden for patients who have both osteoarthritis and depression. https://youtu.be/zSZmbcSKbwM

I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who along with many siblings and friends had to watch me 24/7 as I was so suicidal. I was eventually hospitalized. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 4 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor. I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time!

http://www.nutritionforest.com/green-tea-extract.html http://www.nutritionforest.com Nutrition Forest Green Tea Extract 98% with 500mg Green tea belongs to Camellia Sinensis plant, an evergreen shrub whose leaves are used to make tea. Green tea is indigenous to china but now proliferated in many parts of Asia. Steeping leaves into hot water to prepare green tea for drink has promulgated due to its several invincible and incredible benefits. An easy step of steeping leaves in hot water to release its flavor and extract and then drink gives numerous benefits. Green tea extract helps to lose weight. It supports immune system, inhibits cardiovascular disease and also helps to reduce stress and depression. Green tea extract contains flavonoids, provide energy to body. Flavonoids are antioxidants which inhibit cells damage by free radicals. Being antioxidant and anti-inflammatory it also prevents cardiovascular disease. Green tea extract contains some amount of caffeine, a stimulant conducive to burn fat and improves the function of metabolism. Most effective catechin in green tea is EGCG which burns fat and controls large amount of calories. Why Green Tea? Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols the substances that give green tea its many benefits. Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of. Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes. 1. Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. 2. Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage. 3. Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks. 4. Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them. 5. Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. 6. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells. 7. Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions 8. Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. 9. Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers. 10. Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases. 11. Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage. green tea benefits benefits of green tea green tea extract best green tea green tea diet green tea powder green tea for weight loss matcha green tea benefit of green tea organic green tea matcha green tea powder what is green tea green tea leaves japanese green tea health benefits of green tea green tea side effects is green tea good for you green tea health benefits green tea tablets what is green tea good for advantages of green tea jasmine green tea green tea supplements green tea capsules chinese green tea side effects of green tea green tea fat burner green tea advantages green tea extract weight loss green tea extract benefits

Seroquel XR Medication Alternative 1-888-566-8774

01:01
Looking for a Seroquel Medication Alternative? https://ktcpartnership.com/ SEROQUEL XR is a once-daily tablet approved in adults for: (1) add-on treatment to an antidepressant for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who did not have an adequate response to antidepressant therapy, (2) acute depressive episodes in bipolar disorder. In the last decade, KETAMINE has been used to treat patients with treatment resistant major depression, bipolar depression, and postpartum depression with a greater than 70% success rate within hours to days (not weeks to months like most oral medications/pills). Important Safety Information About SEROQUEL XR: • Antidepressants (like SEROQUEL XR) have increased the risk of suicidal thoughts and actions in some children, teenagers, and young adults. • Stroke that can lead to death can happen in elderly people with dementia who take medicines like SEROQUEL XR • Stop SEROQUEL XR and call your doctor right away if you have some or all of the following symptoms: high fever, excessive sweating, stiff muscles, confusion, changes in pulse, heart rate, and blood pressure. These may be symptoms of a rare, but very serious and potentially fatal, side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). • High blood sugar and diabetes have been reported with SEROQUEL. If you develop symptoms of high blood sugar or diabetes, such as excessive thirst or hunger, increased urination, or weakness, contact your doctor. Complications from diabetes can be serious and even life threatening • Increases in triglycerides and in LDL (bad) cholesterol and decreases in HDL (good) cholesterol have been reported with SEROQUEL XR. • Weight gain has been reported with SEROQUEL XR. • Tell your doctor about any movements you cannot control in your face, tongue, or other body parts, as they may be signs of a serious condition called tardive dyskinesia (TD). TD may not go away, even if you stop taking SEROQUEL XR. TD may also start after you stop taking SEROQUEL XR. • Other risks include feeling dizzy or lightheaded upon standing, decreases in white blood cells (which can be fatal), or trouble swallowing. • An eye exam for cataracts is recommended at the beginning of treatment and every 6 months thereafter • Since drowsiness has been reported with SEROQUEL XR, you should not participate in activities such as driving or operating machinery until you know that you can do so safely. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated while taking SEROQUEL XR. Do not drink alcohol while taking SEROQUEL XR • Avoid breast-feeding while taking SEROQUEL XR • The most common side effects are drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, increased appetite, upset stomach, weight gain, fatigue, disturbance in speech and language, and stuffy nose. • Do not stop taking SEROQUEL XR without talking to your doctor. Stopping SEROQUEL XR suddenly may cause side effects. • This is not a complete summary of safety information. Far and away the most common experience with KETAMINE infusions (at KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS) is to have NO SIDE EFFECTS in between treatments. ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION REGARDING SEROQUEL XR IS TAKEN VERBATIM FROM www.seroquelxr.com KETAMINE is a medicine developed more than 50 years ago for anesthesia during surgery, and has been used for that purpose since that time in children, adults, and animals. More recently, KETAMINE has been found to be a valuable and highly effective treatment for major depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and certain pain disorders such as fibromyalgia. KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS offers infusions as a simple outpatient procedure. Following a consultation to determine the appropriateness and safety of this treatment, patients are guided each step of the way with the help of a clinical coordinator to ensure a smooth, supportive process. Because the effects of a single infusion are short-lived, patients who show response (70%) will receive a series of infusions over a 2-3 week period. This is an off-label use of KETAMINE, meaning that the FDA has not approved this medication for this use. However, its safety and effectiveness have been demonstrated in multiple research studies, and off-label prescribing is a common and necessary practice in all fields of medicine. https://ktcpartnership.com/ Seroquel XR Medication Alternative 1-888-566-8774

Pharmacology of Benzodiazepines

04:07
Mastering Medications : Benzodiazepines Want to Learn More? Join Our FREE Facebook Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1153328328045266/ Transcript: Talking about benzodiazepines. Should be pretty familiar with this drug if you're getting into advanced care, paramedicine, because it is a very widely used medication for a few different reasons. Okay? And so the whole idea of benzodiazepines, like you saw with barbiturates, if you've gone through that video yet, is that benzodiazepines affect the GABA receptors. And so GABA receptors are the main inhibitory neuron or neurotransmitter that's within the central nervous system. And so when it produces a response, or benzodiazepine attaches and produces a response from the GABA receptors, it causes a decreasing level of consciousness. Okay? That's essentially the whole point of having benzodiazepines is that what it does within the GABA receptor, what it does in the central nervous system, is that it slows down transmission of signals. Okay? And so by doing that, it's basically have an influx of chloride. It's hyperpolarizing the cell, and so by hyperpolarizing the cell, it's much more difficult for a neuron to fire. And that's what benzodiazepines are doing is that it's hyperpolarizing that cell so it's difficult for it to fire. And that means that we're going to have less central nervous system transmission, and so that's why it's good for using it for seizures and aggressive patients, anxiety, those kind of things, 'cause those are all due to severe neuron electroactivity within the central nervous system that's producing an affect in the body. Okay? And so that's what benzodiazepines are great for, is that it reduces the amount of electroactivity in the central nervous system to the point where you're going to see decreasing level of consciousness, and if you use enough of it, a full complete unconsciousness with a severe respiratory depression. So that's another side of it is you got to be really careful with how much you use, because of its pretty hard-hitting effects. Okay? So very, very important. So, reduces anxiety. It's a sedative. Anterograde amnesia, convulsing, and muscle relaxant. It does all these things. Okay? It has a lot of different actions. It's a very widely used medication, stuff like Versed and Ativan, both very widely used benzodiazepines. Okay? Big thing with this is to make sure you're monitoring the SpO2. Very, very important because SpO2 is going to be affected just because we have a severe respiratory depression and decrease in central nervous system reactivity, so we might see some desats on these patients, so it's important to put an SpO2 monitor on them, and if they desat to the point where you need to put an oxygen on them, that's important to identify in someone that's using benzodiazepines. And everyone is affected differently with benzos. Typically I go on the low end, mostly because of experiences with, not overdosing, but definitely having pretty major effects by giving someone a little too much. And it wasn't even too much. I mean it's just by the fact that it's a normal thing in a protocol to give anybody 2.5 to five milligrams of Versed, and in a couple patients that have had, I've seen some pretty major respiratory depression, decrease in central nervous system reactivity with using just those types of doses. So typically I use anywhere between one and work my way up to the point where now I have the achieved effect. Okay? Always going lower and working my way up where it's the better way to do it. That way you can monitor and control your patient that much better. Okay? Depending on the effect you're looking for. Okay? There is a way to reverse the effect as well. We don't carry it typically on an ambulance, but Flumazenil is the medication of choice for reversing benzodiazepines. Rarely is it used, but if it is, that's the drug of choice it would be for reversing benzodiazepines. If you have any questions, please email me or post the question in the group, and we'll chat. Thanks, guys. Master Your Medics https://www.masteryourmedics.com/pages/about-us

Vilazodone effect on sexual function in GAD patients - 103408

03:22
Video abstract of original research paper “Characterizing sexual function in patients with generalized anxiety disorder: a pooled analysis of three vilazodone studies” published in the open access journal Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment by authors Clayton et al. Background: Vilazodone has been shown to reduce core symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. Since sexual dysfunction (SD) is not well characterized in GAD, a post hoc analysis of these trials was conducted to evaluate the effects of vilazodone on sexual functioning in GAD patients. Materials and methods: Data were pooled from one fixed-dose trial of vilazodone 20 and 40 mg/day (NCT01629966) and two flexible-dose studies of vilazodone 20–40 mg/day (NCT01766401, NCT01844115) in adults with GAD. Sexual functioning was assessed using the Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (CSFQ). Outcomes included mean change from baseline to end of treatment (EOT) in CSFQ total score and percentage of patients shifting from SD at baseline (CSFQ total score ≤47 for males, ≤41 for females) to normal functioning at EOT. Treatment-emergent adverse events related to sexual functioning were also analyzed. Results: A total of 1,373 patients were included in the analyses. SD at baseline was more common in females (placebo, 46.4%; vilazodone, 49%) than in males (placebo, 35.1%; vilazodone, 40.9%). CSFQ total score improvement was found in both females (placebo, +1.2; vilazodone, +1.6) and males (placebo, +2.1; vilazodone, +1.0), with no statistically significant differences between treatment groups. The percentage of patients who shifted from SD at baseline to normal sexual functioning at EOT was higher in males (placebo, 40.6%; vilazodone, 35.7%) than in females (placebo, 24.9%; vilazodone, 34.9%); no statistical testing was performed. Except for erectile dysfunction and delayed ejaculation in vilazodone-treated males (2.4% and 2.1%, respectively), no treatment-emergent adverse events related to sexual functioning occurred in ≥2% of patients in either treatment group. Conclusion: Approximately 35%–50% of patients in the vilazodone GAD studies had SD at baseline. Vilazodone and placebo had similar effects on CSFQ outcomes in both females and males, indicating a limited adverse impact on sexual functioning with vilazodone. Effective Treatment for OCD in NYC Using TMS | 9 Min HD video with Transcribe

09:22
Wach this 9 minutes HD video about treating Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) in New York City with doctor Robert D. McMullen, MD from TMS BrainCare Address: #2, 171 W 79th St, New York, NY 10024 Phone: (212) 362-9635 http://tmsbraincare.com Deep TMS Effective For OCD? People who suffer from OCD may find that Deep TMS is effective for improving their OCD symptoms. Patients suffering for OCD can find it difficult to maintain a job or even a functioning lifestyle due to the fact that they “worry” about a given thing (such as washing their hands, locking their doors, etc.) to such as extent that they find it difficult to focus on their job, family, relationships or anything else. Many people suffering from OCD also suffer from depression as well making their lives frustrating and difficult and leave them begging for some type of medical and Psychological relief. Medications Have Proven to Be Limited in their Effectiveness for Treating OCD Unfortunately, medications for OCD are not effective in treating every patient, and those that did experience some relief from their OCD symptoms only saw around a 25% improvement in their symptoms and the improvements they experienced seldom lasted more than a few weeks. In addition, patients who found one type of OCD medication failed often are more likely to have the next, and the next, and next type of medication fail as well leaving them without much hope of ever seeing an improvement in their OCD symptoms. Electro Shock Therapy Also Shows Some Limited Results When medication fails to improve the symptoms of OCD many turn to Electro shock therapy or ECT. This therapy is expensive and the potential for negative side effectives such as seizures can be quite high in some cases. Patients also find that after receiving the treatment they are pretty well unable to work or function at their normal level for the rest of the day. Leaving medical and Psychological professionals searching for a new treatment for OCD that may have more positive results. Deep TMS Shows Great Promise TMS or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation has show good results in treating depression with around 50% of all patients suffering from depression seeing long term and significant improvements. Now some professionals are using deep TMS for treating OCD. Deep TMS differs from regular TMS in that it penetrates deeper into the brain. Early show that in some cases patients who are treated for OCD using deep TMS show up to a 50% improvement in their OCD symptoms and those that experience a reduction in symptoms find that the improvement from these symptoms lasts longer than with shock therapy. In addition, Deep TMS poses less risk and although patients need to have treatments several times a week for several weeks, they can leave the treatment and return to work or to go about their regular daily schedule with no recovery time needed. for further information visit http://tmsbraincare.com/effective-new-treatment-ocd-9-min-hd-video-transcribe/ & learn more about OCD Treatment in NYC

Baclofen: What You Need To Know

07:16
Baclofen is a GABA-like drug that has been used for decades in the treatment of spasticity. It has muscle relaxant, anxiolytic, and sedative properties. Outside of its medical use for spasticity, it has been researched as a possible treatment for alcohol dependence. The drug is sometimes taken in non-medical settings because it can provide anxiety reduction, sedation, and some euphoria. It’s usually described as somewhat similar to phenibut in its effects. For reference:  Cognitive enhancers can be used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, Schizophrenia, ADHD, and stroke victims[1]  Surgeons used drugs to steady their hands[2]  USAF pilots use amphetamines to stay alert for long missions (20+ hours)[2]  Side effects of amphetamines include confusion, delusion, auditory hallucinations, aggression, and psychotic behaviour[2]  Caffeinated gum has been tested by the US Military[2]  Modafinil and caffeine have been used to enhance aircrew performance[3]  A 4500mg dose was used in an attempted suicide, which failed. Instead, the subject experienced insomnia, increased heart rate, and excitation.[3]  Illegal use of steroids, HGH, and testosterone in Blackwater Agency[4]  Side effects of amphetamines include insomnia, decreased appetite and addiction[5]  Caffeine is a cognitive enhancer[5]  A lot of cognitive enhancers are also stimulants, so can raise blood pressure[6]  Students feel pressured to take them to compete with those already using them[6]  Caffeine causes tremors at high dosages required for effectiveness[7]  Could disturb work life balance[7]  Modafinil inhibits the release of GABA[8]  Modafinil prompts glutamate release in the hippocampus[8]  Drug companies would have difficulty licensing enhancing drugs when they don’t treat/cure disease or illness.[9]  Supply of cognitive enhancers for healthy patients relies on physicians who share the same mind-set on the use of the drugs.[9]  Synaptic reinforcement –relaying the same impulse through a neurone, strengthening the connection[9]  No knowledge of long term effects[10]  Survey[10]  Modafinil was designed to treat narcolepsy[11] [1] - Froestl, W., Muhs, A. and Pfeifer, A. Thanks for supporting us! This is in part 2 of our videos about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, also called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and other names. I have had CFS/FM most of my life and here’s what I do to try to control it. How we cope with CFS/Fibromyalgia article I mentioned in the video: https://www.livingonadime.com/how-to-cope-with-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-and-fibromyalgia/ Link to essential oils for sleep: http://sparknaturals.com/index.php/bl-dream.html You can see part 1, About Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0ENd3zNKfo Here are some of the points we discuss in this video: 0:13 When we first got married, Mike didn’t really understand how serious my chronic illness was. 0:39 Mike’s experience realizing what chronically ill really meant. 2:49 Tawra: When we got to Idaho where it was cooler and the humidity was low, I was able to perk up a little bit. 2:58 Mike: I didn’t really recognize until we had been married 10-12 years how to really recognize when Tawra was sick. 4:10 Mike: I started to recognize that when Tawra has a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome flare, she gets really pale and when that happens, the Alka-Seltzer helps. Tawra talks about Alka-Seltzer. 5:10 So with the CFS, Tawra will be pale and laying around with a strange expression on her face like she’s not present at all. 5:31 What Fibromyalgia looks like 6:11 The Fibromyalgia is a muscle problem so rubbing helps a lot. 6:23 Restless leg syndrome. 6:48 Learning to distinguish between the CFS and the Fibromyalgia 6:58 My tips to what I use to help me feel better. 7:30 Most recently, I spent $10,000 going to a functional medicine doctor. He helped some but I don’t know if it was worth the money. 8:12 For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the thing that helps me the most is sleep. The 3 most important things to keep CFS under control are are sleep, staying away from stress and not exercising too heavily. 8:34 It’s hard because getting sleep is difficult when you’re ill. 8:47 I tried prescription sleeping medications and antidepressants, but the side effects were completely intolerable so I stay away from them. Mike had to tell me to stop because I didn’t realize how bad I was. 9:26 I don’t use antidepressants but they do help some people. 9:40 I take NADH, an amino acid. 11:33 Things that help my Fibromyalgia. 12:43 About sleep and what I’ve tried to help me sleep better 16:03 Pain medications - I mostly use over the counter pain medications. 17:29 Stretching helps my Fibromyalgia. Light exercise also helps, but too much exercise inflames my CFS. 20:54 Neuromuscular massage 22:10 Hot baths. I take a hot bath in Epsom Salts almost every day. 23:30 Sit with a heating pad at night. 24:58 I live in a cool, dry climate. TMS or ECT for Depression Treatment

10:30
Have you ever considered the possible use of electroconvulsive therapy to treat your, or a loved one’s severe depression? Do you feel like this may be the last option available after everything else has failed? There may be a better option that has fewer side effects and much higher success rates with less time needed for recovery. Dr. Robert McMullen is a psychiatrist that specializes in the medical treatment of various mental illnesses, including depression. He prefers to use more traditional treatments for depression, such as psychotherapy and will refer his patients to a qualified psychotherapist whenever possible. However, when standard courses of therapy fail to cure the more severe cases of depression, both electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) have been used successfully to achieve lasting recovery. In this video, Dr. McMullen explains the differences and similarities between the two therapies, the treatment methods, treatment times and success rates. Intractable depression can respond well to both TMS and ECT, but TMS can have far fewer risks and side effects than ECT. This is because TMS is a more gentle treatment and requires no anesthesia or downtime for the patient. Dr. McMullen also explains the interesting history behind the discovery of ECT, why it works to cure depression and how the treatment has developed over the years. Also, you will hear about a few of the more unusual types of cases he has treated in his own practice and why TMS has proven to be more beneficial for these particular situations. Finally, he will explain that there are some cases, such as severe delusional depression, that may actually respond better to ECT. However, TMS may still be recommended even in these unusual cases because there are no barriers to longer courses of treatment and no need to use anesthesia or miss time from work. Cashew Nuts Are The Absolute Best Treatment for Depression without Medication!

05:15
Benefits Of Cashew Nuts, ★ Like us on FACEBOOK: https://goo.gl/QmGQVT Cashew nuts are one of the healthiest foods in the world. Unfortunately, not many of you know the numerous benefits they offer, and only a very small percentage of the natural medicines comprehensive database is dedicated to them. Countries like Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique and Brazil are the biggest producers of cashew nuts, mostly due to the fact that they need hot and humid climate in order to grow. Health Benefits of Cashew Nuts Cashew nuts are rich in vitamins, soluble dietary fiber, minerals and many phytochemicals that prevent diseases, including cancers. Cashews are also rich in calories, about 50 grams of these favorable foods contain 275 calories. Moreover, cashews are also rich in essential minerals. Some of the most useful minerals found in cashew nuts are potassium, manganese, copper, selenium, magnesium, zinc and iron. Only a handful of these nuts on a daily basis can provide the necessary amount of these extremely needed minerals and protect you from deficiency- related diseases. For instance, copper acts as a co-factor for many important enzymes, like superoxide dismutase and cytochrome c- oxidase. Zinc, on the other hand, plays the same role together with enzymes that are responsible for the regulation of the growth and progress of digestion, gonadal function and DNA synthesis. Selenium is a very important micronutrient and it works as a co-factor for antioxidant enzymes like Glutathione peroxides, known as one of the strongest antioxidants in human body. Monounsaturated fatty acids which are in high quantities in these nuts are extremely good for the heart health, as palmitoleic and oleic acids. They belong to the group of essential fatty acids that can increase the level of good HDL cholesterol and decrease the level of harmful LDLcholesterol in our blood. In addition, as shown by many scientific studies, the so-called Mediterranean diet which is mostly based on monounsaturated fatty acids supports the blood lipid profile, and protect our system from strokes and coronary artery diseases. Furthermore, cashews also contain a small quantity of one very important pigment of flavonoid antioxidants, called zeaxanthin, which is selectively absorbed inside the retinal macula in our eyes. This pigment provides protective and antioxidant UV ray filtering features, and it also protects from ARMD or age-related macular degeneration in old people. How Treat Depression Naturally – A Basic Guide to Cashew Nutrition Cashew nuts are more than great source of tryptophan, which is a vital amino acid our body needs to take it throughout the food. This amino acid helps children develop and grow, regulates mood, balances our behavior, improves sleep and can significantly lower the level of stress, anxiety and depression. Just two handfuls of cashews contain somewhere between 1.000 and 2.000 mg of tryptophan. This compound has been proven to be as equally successful as prescription antidepressants. The best thing about treating depression with cashews is that you will surely avoid side effects that are usually caused by antidepressants. Of course, this is yet another thing big pharma carefully hides from us. In addition, back in 1993, FDA Dietary Task Force has released a report saying that the selling and existence of dietary supplements will not jeopardize efforts for creating new drugs. As you are probably aware by now, big pharma is a huge business. However, there is much effective and safer natural depression treatment they want to hide from the common people because thus they will lose lots of money. An introduction to Cashew Nut Allergy Beside allergies caused by eating walnuts, almonds and other nuts, cashew nut cause allergy in both adults and children and is one of the commonest food allergies. Same as peanuts, cashews can lead to occurrence of some very severe allergic reactions, even if the individual has consumed just a small quantity of cashews. The healthy nuts we dedicate this article to are a hidden ingredient in many common foods such as ice cream, cakes and Asian dishes. Anyway, if you ever experience symptoms of cashew nut allergy, it is mandatory to look for professional help. Please Subscribe To Our Channel And Also Share It With Your Friends Thank You:

We spoke with Dr. Ross to hear a little bit more about this fascinating area of research. GIVEN YOUR BACKGROUND IN ADDICTION AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE, WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN EVALUATING THE USE OF PSYCHEDELICS TO TREAT PSYCHIATRIC CONDITIONS, SUCH AS ALCOHOLISM AND END-OF-LIFE ANXIETY? Dr. Ross: In my general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry training, I learned nothing about the history of research with psychedelics within psychiatry and psychology from the 1950s-70s. A colleague informed me of this research in 2006, and when I looked into it, I was surprised to find that the most studied and most promising indication for using psychedelics to treat medical conditions was for alcoholism and terminal cancer-related psychological distress. I found this very interesting, and there appeared to be promising results that were never followed up on because of the passage of the 1970 Controlled Substances Act, which classified psychedelic drugs as Schedule I (indicating “no current medical use” and “high abuse potential”). YOU MENTIONED IN YOUR TALK THAT PSYCHEDELIC RESEARCH, WHICH WAS ONCE BANNED, IS MAKING A COMEBACK. CAN YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE WHY THAT IS AND WHAT YOU THINK THE POTENTIAL VALUE COULD BE FOR PATIENTS? Dr. Ross: It is experiencing a resurgence because a small but growing group of academic psychiatrists and psychologists at major academic medical institutions are interested in this line of research and see its potential application to patient care. There could be value in these treatment models if the data definitively show that they work. However, we need much more research to be able to know this. The potential value, if they do work for various problems, is a new model of treatment that is novel (i.e., single to a few doses per treatment episode with sustained clinical benefits). YOU RECENTLY CONDUCTED A TRIAL LOOKING AT THE USE OF PSILOCYBIN ON ANXIETY AND PSYCHOSOCIAL DISTRESS IN ADVANCED CANCER PATIENTS. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT THAT TRIAL INVOLVED AND THE OUTCOMES? Dr. Ross: We tested single dose psilocybin vs single dose placebo to treat cancer-related psychological distress (anxiety, depression). The results are currently being written up, but we found that patients showed dramatic changes in anxiety, depression and orientation toward death, and that a single dose effect may last as long as eight months. THE PSILOCYBIN-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY YOU HAVE EVALUATED REQUIRES A MALE AND FEMALE THERAPIST TO BE PRESENT WITH THE PATIENT THROUGHOUT THE DAY. IS THIS METHOD NECESSARY FOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE TREATMENT OR IS IT MOSTLY TO INSURE SAFETY? Dr. Ross: This is the model developed by the psychiatrist Dr. Stanislav Grof in the 1960s. Having two therapists in the room is important from a safety perspective, as it is a long day of treatment (eight to 12 hours), and if one therapist gets ill or has an emergency, the other therapist will need to be there. YOU SPOKE ABOUT HOW YOU WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO USE PSYCHEDELIC MEDICATIONS IN YOUR CLINICAL TRIALS. CAN YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE? Dr. Ross: There is a path to get approval to conduct this type of research, but it is painstaking and laborious. It requires governmental approval, specifically, an Investigational New Drug application from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and a Schedule I license from the state’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration. It also requires a local institutional approval from a review board. WHAT DO YOU PREDICT THE BENEFITS MAY BE FROM USING PSILOCYBIN-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY TO TREAT ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS? Dr. Ross: We need much more research to answer this question, but based on the LSD clinical trials used to treat alcoholism in the 1960s, this line of research looks promising. http://www.centeronaddiction.org/the-buzz-blog/five-minutes-stephen-ross-md-expert-therapeutic-application-psychedelic-drugs Presented at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA Columbia) on October 1, 2015.
