Pleaseee! You are the only one on YT comparing these drugs. I am curious about weight gain. I have been on Zoloft for a year and have gained 30 pounds. I am an athlete as well but it makes me not want to workout and makes me hungry.
Ok I took Lexapro for like 4 month and I lost 20 lbs, since I lost my appetite and I wouldn't crave for food. Because of severe headaches, I start taking Zoloft 100 mg instead for about a year. Zoloft made me so relaxed and lazy. My depression disappeared but I was tired all the time and didn't want to do my daily tasks. I also gained like 50 lbs while I was on Zoloft. I just talked to my doctor, and she switched me to Wellbutrin and man I got my mojo back. I am way more active and motivated. I am not tired any more. No more brain fogs and I am very organised and basically get things done. Also I lost my appetite again. I don't crave for food and I have to force my self to eat. If you have problem with (SSRI) antidepressants consider taking (NDRI) antidepressant
I tried one Lexapro pill and my throat felt so tight it scared me and made anxiety worse so I discontinued it since I was not sure whether it was an allergic reaction or a normal side effect, anyone else had that?
I think of the most crazy things also. Its bcuz bad stuff has happened to us...but im on zoloft n I like it but yeah going up on the dose sucks. I pray n put my nightmare fears into Gods hands cuz ill get up in the middle of the night to make sure my baby is breathing and not smothered, or see if someone next to me is breathing hoping nothing happens to them its crazy cuz fear started to control me n I wasn't being a normal mom to my boys...but anything can happen at anytime so im always trying to put it in gods hands n trust him...good luck. I wish u nothing but the best peace of mind, love that stays safe...n just a normal mindset...
I just started 5mg of lexapro this morning. I am very sensitive to meds. I was wondering if taking at night interrupts your sleep? My dr said take it in the morning. After I took it I felt tired but I could still function. I deal a lot with anxiety. Thank you for your video.
I’m a mom with pcos as well. I’m struggling with depression and trying to start to get help. Thanks for this video, it makes me not feel like I am the only one. I snap at my kids alit lately and that just isn’t me. Thanks again for this video it helped me feel like I wasn’t alone. Please make a vid about how you started your journey.
Its different for everyone but for me Zoloft saved my life yes i gained weight but i go to the gym to work on it.Also Zoloft gives my brain time to think my thoughts threw,i still have a little anxiety but not as bad as it was .
I am an old bastard who suffers major depression and anxiety. I was prescribed sertraline (Zoloft). First 25mg. then 50 mg. then 100 mg. then 150 mg. .......each time I would say I feel worse. I wanted to commit suicide last winter, but because I have a little cat who depends on me I hung in there until I got back home from Florida. I went to another doctor and he asked me to try Escitalopram (Lexapro). I tried it and within two weeks I was improving. No more suicidal thoughts, a 100 times more motivation and a general feeling of happiness. I will never take Zoloft again. It was poison for me and they just kept upping the dose. Why? Because they really could care less. Instead of building a stupid wall, why doesn't President Trump put the money into research for depression and anxiety. There should be a blood test by now. There should be a magic bullet. Not all this guessing. Thanks for your post.
Hey man I'm with you. I wish the U.S. would focus more on real issues, especially mental illness, instead of a stupid wall to stop a fake enemy. No one talks about mental illness - that's why we're all screwed.
Tesseract9630 Not true though, for someone that used Zoloft for 2 years in the past. How do I know it’s not a placebo?
Because I had been taking in since 13-15 y/o and didn’t even know what it did and the side effects were.
I used it for OCD and only felt in within a few weeks. After that it really had effect and I started to care less about stuff wich that medicine is supposed to do. And as a teen back then (especially early teen) I started doing really stupid shit like stealing, smoking weed drinking and basicly not giving a fuck, and back then I didn’t even know why I felt like that, because before I always had been a shy quiet guy.
Zoloft doesn’t make you do that though.
Just bieng in a really bad place while bieng 13 and on antidepressants make you do that.
The year after that I’ve grown out of that phase, but still felt pretty numb inside emotionally.
You don’t paticularly feel bad, but just empty, because you can’t feel sad.
Serotonin is the main thing that SSRI influences. (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor).
And serotonin is the neurotransmitter that mentally stablelises your emotion and feel like you have more social status and less anxiety.
Take it for at least 4-8 weeks. It's slow medicine. You have to give it a chance as long as you're doctor says you tolerate it. That is you don't have bad side effects like stomach aches and diarrhea. You have to get your questions answered from your doc and work on finding which medication is best for you. Don't give up. You don't have to live with anxiety. You can live a great life.
Hey girl good on you for taking care of yourself ! I’m currently going through the same thing as what you’re talking about. My Zoloft has quit working on me after 4yrs of it previously working.😕 So now I’m slowly titrating down on it and starting on Lexapro. I don’t know how you take the lexapro at night because it gives me a boost of energy kinda like a cup of coffee or tea. I also gained weight on Zoloft. 😒 Do u live in California? I’ve been looking for a fellow mom that understands me and can excercise together. 😊
Have been on lexapro for 8 months. Originally took 10 mg and felt AWFUL .. super tired, unmotivated and felt more sad. Doctor changed it to 20mg and works like magic. Haven’t had a bad day since. Not tired didn’t gain weight not super hungry like I used to be. I was able to breastfeed my son with it while on the 10mg dosage. No side effects for the baby and was okd by pediatrician and my physician. I took it for post partum which transitioned into full blown depression.
I was on zoloft for around a month until I had a super bad side effect
& had to stop suddenly. Zoloft made me loose hella weight and didn't make me wanna eat. Then I started Lexapro, best decision. I had tiny side effects the first weeks but now I can slowly start to feel the benefits.. Haven't been on lexapro for even a full month yet, but pretty sure I will stick to it. Hope you're feeling good :)
Gloria Rodriguez I started on 10mg but recently went up on 15mg. to be honest it all depends with your mind/body chemistry. Like I did go thru a couple hard depression moments while on medication, but once the medication just kicks in it's really a great feeling for you mentally. Things will be ok! If the medication works for you awesome! But I didn't find this until zoloft. Best of luck to you <3
How many mg of lexapro did they start you off on? I’m so nervous to start medication it will be the first time ever trying something for anxiety & im so scared mainly cuz people are saying they experience suicidal thoughts they can’t control I’ve never been suicidal or had chronic depression only anxiety.

Actually i left my medication, venlor xr, but there was some sudden shock like electricity in my mind like seziurs. I was tolerating this for 10 days but this was not cover-up my mind. Then i recently took it again. Now i am fine but i really want help from your side. It really help
I am totally frustrated.
Jacob Wiebe I actually work out. So yeah I can blame the Zoloft. I was on Zoloft for 3 years. I work my ass off and my weight was going no where. But I’ve stopped taking it for about a month now and I’m down 15 pounds.. the medication effects people differently. Just because it didn’t make you gain weight doesn’t mean it wasn’t the problem for me.
It works but you gain a lot of weight and it’s hard to get off of when you want to lose weight. I’ve been on it for 3-4 years. Just stopped cold turkey this week against my doctors advice but I don’t like being dependent on this drug. One day off of it, and I feel like crap.
Ive been on 25mg zoloft for 2 month and it has work for my anixety but im like you i dont like the fact that i have to keep uping the dose.So im switching to lexapro.I was wondering did you have to taper off the zoloft or were you able to switch to Lexapro like that.My Dr said its ok to switch but dont know if it cool to do so,really dont want to deal with horrible side effects
Didn’t you ever experience hair loss with either, mainly Zoloft? Im supposed to start that today but I’ve seen so many hair loss cases. I took lexapro for a month but the stomach discomfort was too much. But I think I’d prefer lexapro
Lexapro is for Anxiety, Depression and OCD disorder. Side effects are worse for men, but overall not bad. kills any proper erections to have intercourse for at-least two weeks, (which was frustrating), makes it way harder to ejaculate (Girlfriend loves that one XD), gave me nausea, etc.
thank you for sharing.. I am soon to start on meds but my doctor is still discussing what's best for me. I'm interested more to take lexapro since the side effects of Zoloft seem like a common thread that scares me.
Arron is right im on zoloft aswell i was 178 when starting i cleaned my diet up and hit the gym amd carido daylie now im 149 u cant tell me it makes u gain .. when its the fact you cant stop shuving burgs and sugars down ur throat
I was thinking probably not burning enough calories. Usually increased appetite is a good sign. You have to do things to burn those calories off, however. I agree with you about being skeptical about antidepressants making you gain weight, however .. I believe it's because they make people feel better and so they eat more.
Do you take it for depression or anxiety or both? I have had clinical depression for 18 yrs. I tried diff antidepressants and settled on Zoloft because it didn't affect my sleep. Fast forward to now and I am completely upside down with my body clock and not sleeping well so I have decided my body is immune to Zoloft. I got a 10mg Rx of Lexapro tonight. I am taking 1/2 tonight and hope it doesn't keep me awake.
Does it affect your sleep? If you take it for depression, have you had other side effects?
Women 65 and Over I take lexepro in the morning as it's an activating ssri so yes it might keep you awake. It's common for your clinician to instruct you to take it in the morning to avoid disruption to sleep. I also found at higher doses over 10mg I needed seroquel to sleep because of it but everyone's different. Also initially it can cause increased energy and anxiety and trouble sleeping but this is short term 3-6 weeks and then should ease off
When I started Zoloft I did not sleep for 2 weeks, It did kind of work for me as the anxiety lowered and I was able to do a few things around the house that had me triggered and living in fear of. But I was still having big waves of depression, So I am now in a detoxing faze before trying Lexapro. Thanks for your video :-)
Joshua Cabrera yes and yes. I felt more energy because I didn’t feel down and depressed. Just the first week ish I had trouble sleeping but after it’s in my system I was good to go when I went to sleep.
Is Lexapro and Escitalopram the same medicine? I have been taking escitalopram 10mg since 6 weeks and see no difference in my anxiety. I still have to take a bit of benzo in the morning in order to be calm. What about you?
Not true. Lexapro or generic escitalopram (sp?) Is mainly given for Anxiety an depression but works well for anxiety or GAD. It has a antihistamine hence sleepy feeling or calmed down feeling. Its sister is Celaxa. It does not have the sleepyness added to it. Each antidepressant is totally diff. One can work for one person an not the other. Zoloft is more activating. But you have to get thrue the first wks to reach the therapeutic dose. Im on 5mg of generic Lexapro. I have very bad GAD an depression. Both go hand n hand. Ive tried 13 meds. 2nd time on Lex. But only got to 10mg. But was taking a opiate at same time. Turns out Codeine blocks the usefulness of Lexapro. So I thought it wasnt working. Wt gain an sleepy all time for 2 mths. So stopped. Now I know this an back to it due to it had least bad side effects for me. The worst was Zoloft. Ugh.. anorexia, diarrhea, liver pain an enzymes went waaay up. Labs went bad. Flu like aches all over. Had to stop. After I stopped it all went away in 4 wks. Brain zaps are common or dizziness when stopping but always taper down. Effexor an Cymbalta. OMG. Horrible getting off!! Never again. Prozac bad. For me. It might help someone else just not me. So on day 4 of 5mg easing up to 10mg in another wk. Im sensitive to meds apparently an if this doesnt work doing the genetic cheek swab for which psychotropic is best suited for my body chemistry. Im also in menopause so Im sure hormones are an issue. Ive had this since 2014 at 46. So goodluck! #sicknotweak #noshame
Do you really need to be taking this at all? You are perfectly normal. There is nothing wrong with you. People should learn to better express their genuine feelings rather than try to suppress them. Feeling and expressing anger is normal and healthy.
Im a mother of two as well and everything you said in this video I relate to so much! I am on Zoloft, have been for months now and have gained a lot of weight along with other side effects. I know this is personal but do you find that either medication affects your sex drive?
I was on Zoloft for 2 years and I swear I’d never want to have sex. I only had sex to help my ex boyfriends needs but if it wasn’t for that I could have went the whole time without it and been just fine.
Since I have the same problem I'll tell you about my experience. My libido suffers under both actually (depending on the dose of Zoloft - above 50mg very much so, only 50mg, it's not thaaaaaat bad..) but with Lexapro even at 10mg. The thing though is, Lexapro just helps better so I had to make little sacrifices. My Doctor gave me a smal dose of Ritalin (I also have an ADD diagnosis) which helps (by increasing Dopamin in the brain) with my sex-drive. (taken ca 30 min before having intercourse). Does Zoloft effect your libido? I hope I could help, I know how difficult and annoying it is.
anna Morris I would say the Zoloft did when I first started taking it. The lexapro however makes me feel better then normal! I’m really scared if I get pregnant because I can’t take lexapro while pregnant 😭
Antidepressants are medications that can help relieve symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia, or mild chronic depression, as well as other conditions.
They aim to correct chemical imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain that are believed to be responsible for changes in mood and behavior.
Depression Medications (Antidepressants)
These are the most commonly prescribed type of antidepressant.
Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are used to treat major depression, mood disorders, and possibly but less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, and chronic neuropathic pain.
SNRIs raise levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters in the brain that play a key role in stabilizing mood.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
