Feel Depressed or Anxious? Talk to Someone Now http://www.tryonlinetherapy.com/depressiontoexpression/
Antidepressants do hold their fair share of side effects. Let's be honest, anti-depressants have created some pretty serious horror stories in the past and continue to be scary option for those who suffer from anxiety or depression. I get it, taking antidepressants should be a decision you are comfortable with first. Of course, with every bad story from antidepressants there are also many success stories from people who used the exact same drug that others used who had these horror stories. I would say that my anti-depressant story is an extremely positive one.
Let's talk about some of the side effects of these drugs and an important differentiation between POSSIBLE side effects and PROBABLE side effects. There's the key word right there :)
If you are to comment, please refuse from naming any kinds of medications as everyones treatment is different. Let's not discourage the use of anti-depressants or promote them. Whatever works baby!!
If you're curious of the side effects:
• feeling agitated, shaky or anxious
• feeling and being sick
• indigestion and stomach aches
• diarrhoea or constipation
• loss of appetite
• weight gain
• not sleeping well (insomnia), or feeling very sleepy
• low sex drive
• difficulties achieving orgasm during sex or masturbation
• in men, difficulties obtaining or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction)
• dry mouth
• slight blurring of vision
• problems passing urine
• excessive sweating (especially at night)
• heart rhythm problems
• muscle twitching
• muscle pain
• reduced appetite
• feeling listless and tired
• seizures (fits)
• suicidal thoughts

my mum gave me anti-depressants today because she my father and my grandpa had chemical imbalances in the brain and she thinks i do too because i get really emotional and angry over little things, now im losing appetite, having trouble having a nap and im shivering, she told me this would happen and i just hope this medication helps me so i dont embarrass myself at school
I guess I’m unlucky and super sensitive to medications... Have taken most ADs on the market including the Atypical ones and ALL of them gave me terrible side effects at the LOWEST doses. Sucks for me I guess
i stopped taking the pill because i felt as if nothing changed. Because i stopped i got the side effects, nausea and a stomach ache. It's been about a week or so and the pain is still bad. Does anyone know how long these side effects last for? I cant bare this pain and nausea any longer.
So ODing on Antidepressants...experincing several of the OD signs...yet never blacking out, going to the hospital and not dying... thoughts ?like do you know if this person can still slowly die from that "untreatable" OD ?
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to learn about alternative treatment for depression try Vaxicorn Depression Remover Guide (just google it ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
Just started Prozac and omg the indigestion is miserable . I hope it stops soon. I also seem to be having some weird random twitching in my foot and side. I’m gonna hang in there though and hope they pass.
I had a very bad side effects from pristiq ,still under recovering, I have neck problem c3/ c4/c5 and c 5 which coursing me headache, but the Dr said I am under stress and gave me that medicine, I still having shivering because of the medication.
Am i the only one who does not suffer any side effect from the anti-depressants?
I mean, of course the first weeks you experience something (like nausea or a little bit of sweating for example) but thats pretty much it. And they can actually work, so Jesus, give it try and dont care about it. If you are suffering you should try medication
Same. First day i kinda felt a little bit sick IF I wasnt doing anything and a little nauseous and very tired. Day after a bit nauseous and tired. After that there was only 1 day I kinda felt okay, but more sad. Other days only quite tired like within an hour after taking the pill. 3th week 2nd day in, I noticed the tiredness was almost absolutely gone. Today I'm beginning with the 5th week, taking em for a month now. I'm okay, but they say it mostly "works" somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks. These are my first antidepressants, I hope I will feel better. I kinda more feel.. neutral? Now for most things. But if someone triggers me, I can get an instant headache and be angry. I still feel sad in these last 4 weeks, but less or something. Not as long as usual. But I dunno, we'll see. Hope these are "the one", so it won't be a month or year(s)-long search for the right pills.
Thank you so much for the video (words of encouragement). Is being nauseous in the morning normal though? Total burnout feeling and almost a feeling of "I want to, but I have nothing left" normal when being on it? Surely it should help with that deep, dark pit feeling instead of worsening?
You spent 2 years researching a bike yet didn’t give a shit about potential side effects of a medication? What kind of researcher are you? Just because you choose to be ignorant about putting a chemical substance into your body, doesn’t mean anyone else should. You say you’re not giving advice and not to promote, yet by posting this video you are promoting what you did. Horrible advice!
After trying 5 different antidepressants, I gave up. Glad to hear they work for others. But they didn't work for me. Either I felt worse or I felt nothing at all. The house could have burned down around me and I be like, yeah, so what. They're not for everyone. Which kind of sucks for me. Cause I still feel like shit.
Sooo... getting antidepressants would make my symptoms OF DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY WORSE!! BECAUSE OF COURSE THAT MAKES SENSE!!
Ugh I’m stuck with depression for the rest of my life now... I don’t even care anymore.
the low is worst than the high Symptoms such as nausea, weight gain or sleep problems can be common initially. For many people, these improve within weeks of starting an antidepressant. In some cases, however, antidepressants cause side effects that don't go away. Talk to your doctor or mental health provider about any side effects you're having.Dec 17, 2016
I felt bad, took two pills (40mg paroxetine), felt worse.. After 6 months I 've had enough! I have tapered down slowly over a period of a month. Felt ok until currently, after one week on 10mg; I am constantly nauseous and dizzy with intense brainzaps (they come in three's) every 5-10 minutes.
Trying meditation and fishoil to relieve the worse of it, so far no luck but I guess these things take time...
I just hope I am able to have somewhat of a social life (music festivals etc.) these coming weeks...
We don't understand the brain but develop medications that are supposed to fix a depression? I say no. It's not microsurgery (we can't do that), but rather exposing the whole brain to a chemical. Of course there are 1000 side effects.
I admit, if PSSD did not exist, I would consider taking SSRIs. Temporary side effects are not an issue. But when you talk about permanent side effects, it's a matter of ruining a life. The constant fear of damaging your brain from the medication is worse than the depression itsself lol.
I am going 5-7 days without being able to sleep, and than 2 days passed out not being able to wake up. The whole time feeling dizzy and confused, and in a state of drowsiness. On Prozoc and since it is only 10 mg my mother doesn't believe me how messed up it is making me. She thinks it's all in my head. She forces me to take the pill, and under it I cannot do anything. I went to the doctor because I was feeling unmotivated but she said I was depressed, but I do not think I have depression. My mother says I'm in denial. The doctor says "sometimes we know better," after I asked how is it possible to be diagnosed with depression when you yourself don't think your depressed? The pill is making me less motivated than before, and more numb than I was already feeling. I am supposed to take these pills for 3 months before I can see the doctor again. My mother literally shoves the pill down my throat saying "it will make me feel better". I don't know what to do..for the past 2 days I haven't been able to do anything but watch TV and it is really hard for me to walk straight. Is it all in my head? My sister is taking 100 mg for depression, and I guess people just see me as being a wimp..I think I was misdiagnosed though because I was sleep deprived when I talking to the doctor. Yes I agree with that the pills side affects will work differently for everyone, but isn't there a thing when your getting these side affects for no reason? When it's making you not be able to walk straight or think clearly? I am so furious.
rosacute jenniely I know its hard, try the medication for 2-3 weeks, if the side effects still happen then stop the medication. It is common for extreme side effects to occur for the first week to 10 days. If you feel suicidal or a danger to yourself on the medication or you are coughing blood then stop immediately, after all it is your choice. Not your mothers.
If you truly have depression, the depression itself is so much worse than any side effect you will have. Yes my meds give me side effects that I don't like but I haven't ended my life yet and I am able to leave my house.
I would say it is all worth it. If a doctor decides it is best for you after hearing your genuine symptoms, then basically the relief from symptoms should outweigh the side effects. That is the logic they use.
Au contraire, I was having nausea, insomnia, indigestion, constipation and so effed up BEFORE going back to PDoc after 6 months, and AFTER only 5 days now; all that is very less and bearable. It is not that I'm already alright. Those side effects you mention were what I was having before taking these pills, anyway, And I hope it all will subside during the next week or two.
And yes I went to a GP the first thing and she too recommended seeing the PDoc again.
I was sleep deprived and had chest pains and shortness of breath. One doctor prescribed an antidepressant. I said, "Why, I'm not depressed." He said it would calm me down. All they did was speed up and slow down my heart. Then I went into the hospital because of chest pains, antidepressant's caused me to have loss of appetite. They had me do a treadmill and that made my chest hurt. So the hospital put me on a new antidepressant, thinking I was crazy I guess. This new med was different than my clinic doctor across the street had me on. I said I wanted to confer with him. They said I couldn't because it was against medicare policy. So dummy me, I filled the prescription. I was gullible and stupid because the med was so powerful I had to sign for it. So later I went to a different hospital looking for help and the doctor was a jerk. He took one look at the bottle and how it said antidepressant and he said can you take this with a glass of water. I said, Yes, but why are you treating me like this? I took the stupid pill, I guess to follow the doctor's advice. So after this I went back to a doctor I'd seen for years and said these different meds made me sick. He threw my meds in the trash. That's right, I went into bad withdrawal, vertigo, constipation, weight loss, fatique, bad anxiety and panic attacks. He didn't tell me to wean off it slow. It was at least 3 months before I started to feel better. I'm still not well do to other life problems but am sorry I ever got on antidepressants, especially when the doctors acted like they were being rewarded $100 for every pill they gave me. I think before they give us a pill they should take them. I know they help some people but DON"T take them if your sleep deprived. I've been nothing but tortured.
Using antidepressants when you're not depressed is seriously bad. If you think about it, when there's nothing wrong with your neurotransmitters and you take say stimulating drugs, what does it do to your brain chemistry? Makes it over stimulated, possibly even manic. I got prescribed tranquilizer even though I had the problem of feeling sleepy all the time.. I felt nauseous, had a horrible brain fog and surreal feeling all the time. Like I was living in a dream. Couldn't make decisions and barely hold a conversation. Not good. It's terrible that doctors prescribe these drugs so easily even for a physical problems. I actually have a depression, but I'm a bit tired of constantly trying new medications when clearly the doctors are just playing Russian roulette with them. I mean Nothing else is treated by trying different meds in the hope that some might work, even with the expense that the patient might die by committing suicide. I hope in the future brain scans will become routine in treatment of depression, to figure what type of problem there is and what kinda medication could help if any. No meds for non depressed, but more of a functional and holistic approach that looks at the patient as a whole.

This guys is a complete idiot!
it depends. if you have severe depression, where you feel absolutely no hope in life, scuicidal thoughts every day, etc. if that's the case, those side effects are nothing compared to the hell some people with depression have to face. mental pain is 10 times worse than physical pain.
A psychologist by law can’t prescribe anything because they’re not medical doctors. So you don’t have anything to worry about. A psychiatrist on the other hand, will almost always prescribe medication. But psychologist and psychiatrist are two different fields, and psychologists can’t prescribe anything including antidepressants.
My ex believes I pretend to be depressed for attention. I do too sometimes.
Then I went to go talk to a therapist about problems I'm having and he suggested medicine. I was shocked and told him no. I'm too afraid to get medicine. It might screw with my head. Seeing a Psychiatrist and telling them things. I'll have to go to a new person and apparently it's going to be hard because I already have trust issues.
Antidepressants are medications that can help relieve symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia, or mild chronic depression, as well as other conditions.
They aim to correct chemical imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain that are believed to be responsible for changes in mood and behavior.
Depression Medications (Antidepressants)
These are the most commonly prescribed type of antidepressant.
Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are used to treat major depression, mood disorders, and possibly but less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, and chronic neuropathic pain.
SNRIs raise levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters in the brain that play a key role in stabilizing mood.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
