Dan, my wife and I love your stuff, but your videos with your girlfriend make me cringe. Your list should read:
1: Boyfriend/Spouse makes them get too much bike for their experience
2: Boyfriend/Spouse is too worried about filming their motovlog and forcing the new rider to not only worry about learning to ride, but to narrate video and pose for cameras
3: Boyfriend/spouse yells meaningless (to the new rider) nonsense like "countersteer" in the new rider's ear while they are simply trying to concentrate on not being overwhelmed by operating the controls on the bike
4: When new rider almost rides off the edge of the road 3 times within minute, experienced rider doesn't stop them immediately to correct their behavior.
5: Experienced rider isn't the expert he thinks he is.
Dan, I am telling you this out of love. You are going to end up getting your girfriend hurt. Considering you can buy countless 250CC bikes on them with almost no mileage for $1500 and ride them for 6 months to a year and then sell them for what you pay for them, the fact that you put her on a 50HP bike immediately (more HP than a 1000CC bike had just 30 years ago) was mistake number one. Covering her in filming gear and trying to force her to multitask to make your videos is mistake 2. Telling her to "countersteer" when she isn't even experienced enough to keep the bike in the right gear almost made me laugh if I wasn't scared for her. Watching her almost ride off the edge of the road overriding her abilities and you doing nothing about it was the final nail in the coffin forcing me to write this. Don't let your selfishness and hubris get your GF hurt or worse.
My 5'4" wife moved to a Rebel 500 after 6 months riding over 2000 miles on a V-Star 250 and she actually has motorsports experience in race karts and autocross. Your GF is in WAY OVER HER HEAD because she trusts you and you overestimate your own ability to ride and teach all why trying to be a youtube star.
Dan I want to say thank you 🙏 I watched your videos for two days straight. I bought a 2004 Kawasaki Eliminator 125 . I went to my church parking lot and practice. The other day I rode all the way to work .I did stall twice but thankfully it was 5:00 in the morning. I’ learned how to drive on a stick shift,so that helped a lot . I kept saying your words over and over while riding lol
Hi, I love watching your channel. I'm from the UK, and we have to start on a 125cc and do a CBT course before we can ride on the road this consists of car park training and road training. We have 2 yrs to then take our lessons and test for a bigger bike which consists of theory test and hazard perception test on a computer. Then mod 1 which is slow manouvering, swirve test, emergency stop, handling the bike while off it. Ect. Then mod 2 which is on the road test. We all moan a bit over here but I'm so glad we have this system. It looks more scary over where you are not having passed test before road riding. But this is why these videos on here are so helpful. I'm about to take my mod 2 and I have learned so much from watching you and fast Eddie. So thank you for what your doing, your helping make people safer riders. 😊👍
Another good tip is cleaning your bike regularly. Doing this allows you to put your hands and eyes on the bike and more likely to find issues that may be a problem later. Taking a safety course is important but then practice! I've been riding on the street for forty+ yrs and taken many safety courses. Still practice all the time, you never know when things could go sideways. Nice video.........Ride hard or stay home😎
Genuine question, as I understand it, the states has no restriction on bike size once you get the license right? in youre opinion should a restriction be in place for either a time period or for a license category.
In New Zealand we have 3 bike categories, Learner, Restricted, and Full. between L and R you can have a max of 660cc, F is any CC. you are on L and R for a total of about a year and a half.

Great tips. I am pretty new (few months) and can attest to drivers not seeing you on a bike. It is what it is - be aware and do your best to be as proactive as possible to ensure your own safety. Thanks to DDFM and Fast Eddie, I make time to practice too (was out doing tight figure 8's earlier tonight). Btw, it's fun to see a new rider's journey -you have a great teacher Nikki!
Yes my dumbass was running my bike petcock on reserve because I used to have and old petcock that leaked so I could never run it on run so, I ran out of gas and had to push my bike 2 miles. I really kicked myself for that.
It looks like she is trying put her feet down to early and that is throwing her balance off ,this happened to me when I first started on dirt. Have her try to keep her feet up a little longer and get almost to a complete stop before taking her feet off the pegs.

Sooo this is kinda interesting as it’s the same time I crashed. I crashed on the 4th at an intersection, totaling my bike. This will be my first time dealing with a claim so it’s pretty confusing and complicated and I can’t seem to find any help. If you guys could help me out. In terms of who’s fault it is, nobody has been decided but imo it’s a mutual mess up. I can explain in depth if requested.
Hmmmm..Regarding the maintenance/extensive pre-ride check, it’s my experience that’s one of the fastest ways to scare off new riders. Now in addition to their anxiety over riding, we’re telling them they need to be an amateur motorcycle mechanic. They’re already overwhelmed. Bad move. Are extensive daily pre-ride checks the safest? Sure, but it’s unrealistic. Ease in the motorcycle maintenance info as their riding instead of insisting they do extensive pre-ride checks before they ride...when they can’t even ride yet.
Great tips. I'm 50 looking cool on anything is long past. Practice is KEY. I've ridden many bikes and the one thing that I find is this If you feel over confident in your ability that's when you need to check your ego. Most NEW and some OLD riders believe "this is EASY". Yeah it's real easy to:
GO too fast
Familiarity breeds contempt and usually brings pain.
Personally, i make sure to rinse the bike off more often (if you ride all the way to when they put salt on the roads, rinse after every ride),
make sure that the bike is properly protected (WD-40 in switches to block water form corroding their components, make sure that the paint and frame has a good layer of wax etc.),
check and oil the chain more often,
make sure that the tires arent worn out (!!!).
If i get caught in the rain, I dont cover the bike inside or outside. If its dry, I make sure to put a cover on the motorcycle if its left outside (always good practice to so, UV is harsh on your plastics).
What ive heard, you dont want to put a cover on a wet motorcycle as that makes the water inside turn into moisture and it gets inside your engine and electonics way easyer.
Especially when the sun comes out, the inside of that cover will be like a steam sauna and trap the moisture of the drying water inside instead of letting it out in the air.

Man that course looked nice. Ours had a billion parking lot lines in it which made distinguishing things a lot harder. They did throw out the cones but at times it still messed with my head. So a cleanly defined training area in my opinion, like this one, is a must. Also, those turn from a stop areas are huge in this video. Would have loved those. Ours seemed super tight, but I guess you may not always have a nice wide right turn. Great video.
I agree, sometime it is absolute badluck. But! You can minimize the the single pieces of the crash. Meaning, there is not just one fault leading to a crash, its always multiple indicators leading to it.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
