This doc sure is hesitating a lot. Ahhhhhhhh! Sounds like he's talking out his ass for some of this. I'm lucky that my psych is very compassionate and basically gave me the option to increase my medication rather than forcing me to do so. I'm currently on 20mg Escitalopram (Lexapro) and for the most part, I feel much better. I used to take 100-150mg of Zoloft and it did fuck all for me especially over the past 6 months before i stopped taking it.
Can I Ask You Doctor , is it anafranil good for Depression and OCD? I've major depression, ocd and a little agoraphobia/Derealization and i'm feeling scared and not happy. I took anafranil and amisulpride since 3 months ago. I don't Feel a positive result.
+S M thank you. My derealization is under way and depersonnalization completely gone, also for depression im feeling better. But i have a lot off side effects with medication. ( amisulpride, anafranil and seroplex).
I have depression and had derealization/depersonalization like you. The derealization will go away on it's own with time as long as you work on your anxiety (main cause of derealization). Also, try not to focus on the derealization all the time (try to distract yourself by doing an activity you like such as music or sports or any hobby). I was first put on anafranil like you because I read on the internet that it may help. However, I eventually got off of that and switched to Trintellix, which improved my depression. One medication which helps derealization is naltrexone (i have no idea why) which actually got rid of my derealization while i was on it, but unfortunately it can make depression worse in some people (try a low dose if you want like 1-4mg). My derealization improved by around 80% after one month but has not improved any more since (it's been 4 years). My depersonalization however is completely gone.
Excellent! The only thing I don't necessarily agree with is taking a patient off meds completely. At least it should be done in a controlled way, slowly, taper, patient has excellent self-care habits and knows how to get help if they need it, etc. I love everything else you had to say! As a patient it has taken years of doing my research, seeing numerous psychiatrists, etc. to learn all the stuff you talked about. Not every psychiatrist knows this, or practices these things. I'm glad you put this u-tube video up for everyone to see. I am a treatment resistant patient. I hate it. I do better on SNRI's. Although, I have never tried an MOAI inhibitor. I am on my second round of TMS. I am on about my 5th week of Fetzima. So far, I am feeling a lot better.
They don’t work when they cause mania suicidal thoughts Homocidal thoughts. Insomnia sexual problems chronic diarrhea all at the same time. Fucking poison. Use GAPS diet it’s free and it works. Canada is one of the biggest users of the pesticide glyphosate and also the biggest user of SSRI’s in children even when the label says causes suicidality.
Hate to say it but a lot of psych's dont even care about their patients. I have been in the system since my OCD got really bad at 14, im now 24. Had it for pretty much my whole life. My first psych told me prozac would work for my ocd and my symptoms would be gone with no side effects. Tried it at max dose, nothing, then zyprexa, nothing, then risperidone, nothing, klonopin, nothing, inderall, nothing, same with flunoxal injection. Then into a teen and child psych hospital outpatient program. They took me off all but prozac, and left me on seroquel xr. Even though it didnt work, I was on it for almost 5 years before a doctor took me off cold turkey. They said I had autism, and eventually another psychatrist ruled that out as bs. Then getting older it became harder to get treatment in canada. I tried also zoloft, effexor, ativan, anafranil, luvox, now im on escitalopram 40mg and lyrica 400mg/d. Basically at this point if nothing works, they politely tell you to f off, yet people wonder why so many mental ill commit suicide. Never seen a neurologist, had ect, or any other treatments beside erp, and cbt. Lets be real, would seratonin really be responsible for these endless treatments they are blamed for, and ssri's fix it?
I had a naturopath doctor tell me that my tsh was too high because my thyroid was working hard but my reverse t3 was at the high end of the scale too. But, I cannot get an endocrinologist to give me cytomel. The naturopath doctor was with life extension magazine. His advice is free but he can't prescribe for me. it hurts to know that there is something that can help me but I can't get the help!
That's why I'm afraid to see a psych Dr. I've been depressed for years, used to get xanax from a friend when I was having serious difficulties. Knocked it out of the park, happy again. I've got a feeling that a Dr. will prescribe me that as soon as I win the lottery....twice. Disappointment does not help depression, I'm legitimately afraid of the nosedive I would take when the Dr. won't prescribe what I know works. I was prescribed 200mg of Trazodone daily for sleep. Can't say it even scratched the surface of my depression.
Psychiatry is a pseudoscience. The drugs prescribed by psychiatrists cause the EXACT same symptoms they claim to be treating. Moods and behaviors are not medical diseases that need treatment. This is a marketing scam to sell drugs.
S M You have brain damage if you can't answer my question. Problems in the body can cause depression it's not specifically the "brain" that's depleted it's the entire body. Read what i said slowly so you can absorb what i said. You said *"depression is a medical disease an abnormality of brain function that can be shown on brain scans"* . Are you going to deny you said this?. I asked you to provide me scientific evidence to prove this and you link me to some pseudoscience article by psychiatrists. You also claim that depression is a genetic disease and yet provide no scientific evidence and again link me to psychiatric pseudoscience articles. Do you know what you're talking about?. You make no sense and have no rationality.
+Tromsat You must have brain damage if you can't comprehend my question. Read this comment extra slowly so you can comprehend it properly. I'm not asking WHAT you think the biological causes are (go read my comment again), but which part of the body they affect which causes depression. For example where do you think vitamins and exercise act in the body to help depression? Also, I never claimed depression was a biochemical imbalance (tell me where I said that). If you aren't going to answer the question or put words in my mouth then don't reply.
S M Thats what i thought, you have noting intelligent to say. I already told you 3x what the biological causes could be. I want you to prove to me that depression is caused by a brain dysfunction and you claim that it's a biochemical imbalance in the brain. I am waiting for your proof.
+Tromsat Aside from your uneducated ranting, answer this one question. You say there are "underlying biological causes" of depression. What biological system of the body are those "biological causes" affecting which cause depression?
S M The burden of proof is on psychiatrists and they have proven nothing so what experts say is correct. You make zero sense. Depression is 1 kind and not a disease of the brain as you claim, it is a mood and moods don't get ill. Psychiatrists claim depression and all so called "mental illnesses" are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and is a brain dysfunction/disease but have never proven it. If there is no medical evidence to prove a brain dysfunction/disease as psychiatrists claim then there is no drug that can treat it. You cant medicate something that is not physically there. No psychiatric drugs work and anyone claiming they do is the placebo effect as studies have shown they are no more effective than placebos. Depression is not a brain dysfunction as you and psychiatrists claim. Studies have proven people do better without psychiatric drugs than with them. Don't put vitamins, supplements and exercise which are all natural things compared to neuro-toxic chemical made in a pharmaceutical laboratory designed to damage and disrupt central nervous systems. This is ignorance. Depression can be cause by many things, it could be the loss of a loved one, a pet, a physical illness, sleep disturbances, a nutrient deficiency, a poor diet, a vitamin/mineral deficiency etc. but is not what you claim a dysfunction of the brain as this has never been proven. Psychiatrists do not attempt to fix depression with these methods they use drugs and invent fictitious diseases which they have never proven. Do you believe psychiatric drugs fixed nutrient/vitamin deficiencies, lack of exercise, poor sleep patterns, loss of loved ones?. You said that depression is a brain dysfunction that the drugs correct. I'd like to see you prove this to me. You provided an article claiming that depressed people have abnormalities in their brain function, prove it to me. You speak with no common sense rationality and with ignorance.
I'm 62 now, not supposed to be alive. 9/2/14 I was dianosed with lung cancer. The doctor told me 'I give you about 90 days'. I sought and entered treatment, chemo and radiation. I beat the cancer but the chemo and radiation beat me. My body has yet to recover more than about 65-70% of what I was before cancer. I just want to get better so I can return to work. Doctor put me on wellbutrin, the generic is bupropion. It does nothing for me, I really dont want to keep trying when so far nothing has helped. I plan on talking with my dr at next visit. Somethings got to give. Depression sucks as does having been taken to the brink of death with poisons to kill cancer, not to mention the radiation cooked my insides. I have lots of side issues from the experiance. There has got to be something out there that works. Sometimes I wonder it it was worth it to get treatment, yeah I'm alive but I have gave up my health for it and that is hard. I was a work aholic for 45 years and now I cannot work. Sure messes with my head.
+AwesomenessIskey I went to my court date, met my attorney for first time. Trooper could not be there as he was working a different county. I told my attorney I woould not plead guilty to something I know I'm innocent of. He conferred with the prosecuter and judge, now my court date has been postponed as the lab report could not be found. If they don't get it together, I'm going to call for them to drop charges or I will charge them. This is the 6th court date, I will not keep this up. Starting to get pissed about the whole thing. I refuse to get a record because of a corrupt trooper and court system.
I think if they postponed that many times, they know they wont win or they are just trying to get you to take a guilty plea. Here in canada, for provincial offenses they have a 10 month limitation period, and 18 month period for criminal code offenses. I always disliked the power of authority to control peoples lives. Government lies too much, and we have to take our freedom back.
+AwesomenessIskey I'm well aware how the corruption happens in our LEO's in this small town. Used to be friends with several of them. This one is a state trooper, He has earned himself a bad name. Through the years. Yeah,he acts as one who has let the badge go to his head. Had I not been upset trying to deal with the PTSD I would not have been so nice to him. The boy has no respect. Even when I tried to explain I was fresh from cancer treatment he did not want to hear it. A very rude guy. I've been through enough to last a lifetime and sire did not need his crap. The judge hearing the case is suppossedly a fair, good man. The attourney I have yet to meet but I knew his father. I have witnesses as to the fact I do not drink. This trial should be thrown out, we'll see. I'm not the type to just let them roll over me. May take some time but I am patient and will give it back to them. As for the cop, yeah he's just trying to get his 'gold star', he doesn't know me well, I'm not going to let his ambition land me a false record. I can relate every detail of the stop. I was never even told I was under arrest. Truth of the matter, the cop should have called for a paramedic. My blood had gotten off its required number and put me at a prime risk for a stroke, for that the cop threw me in jail. Its coming up soon if it does not get pushed back again. Guess I'll see what happens then. I just refuse earning a record based on the word of an asshole cop.
+AwesomenessIskey Thank You for your reply and concideration. Yes, there is a benefit in cannibis, for cancer patients its two fold. During treatment I could not eat for some time, wanted to, just couldn't. I went from 226lb down to 152lb, looked like death. Smoking helps with the appettite. The other is the chemical CBH, is known to kill cancer cells. I had not smoked for the better part of 20 yrs. My GP doc told me 'marijuana is the best thing for me' and started writing me a script for it. But it cost about 700$ as insurance does not cover it. I told him tear up script, I could not afford it. Friends would bring me some to help me out. I started smoking it again. My wife swears that is when I started turning for the better. I do not smoke it on a regular basis as even on the street it has become expensive. I'm in trouble with the law over it now. Trooper stopped me and triggered my PTSD, another side effect I did not know I had yet. I had not smoked that day, I only smoke late evening before bed. Cop hauled me to jail, charged me DUI, OTHER. they drew blood. I told them I smoke but not that day. Pot stays in system up to 30 days. They "fixed" my test, said I was over limit on BAC. Funny thing is I do not drink. Haven't for over 30 yrs. My court date has been postponed 5 times now, coming up next month, after 1-1/2 yrs later. I will meet my attorney then. I refuse to plead guilty as I was not under any influence as the trooper said. The only infraction is a seat belt violation, I have problem as it rubs the implanted port for chemo infusion. I will fight them on this. They know I was not high but also know they can't prove I had smoked because of the time it takes to leave the blood. Therefore, someone doctored my lab report to show alholcol over limit, I told trooper I would see him in court as I do not drink. Being postponed five times makes me wonder about there stall tactics. I will not plead guilty! I will fight it.
Newer studies show antidepressants rarely perform better than placebo.
Studies are often selectively published not showing the true information.
Side effects are common and almost guaranteed.
Studies also show your antidepressant will likely stop working at some point meaning the dose will need to be periodically increased and when you do quit you are much more likely to develop a more chronic longer lasting depression.
Dont jump in with anti-depressants because allot of the time they will do more harm than good, This is what ive seen in myself, friends and family also....
DOC,,,, you are right, if one med no work, stop them , Plant based diet, amino acids,,, This is all guess work,, Recently a study came out that people are over meditated, ex Zoloft works best at low dose and increasing dosage cam make things worst,,, This is all guess work at best,, LOOK at the person diet,,
SSRI are bad very bad meds Each day more is coming out that they do not work inovet60 per cent f people and when they do give some reliefs for many it does not last 2, Dr do you inform your patients just how awful trying to get off of these meds ?? 3 All psych give there best guess on what med might work Your profession is the only one who treats a organ without seeing the brain — guess work at best 4 studies from Harvard now show that depression is better treated through diet. Amino acids Supper vit ... I can go on but my point is ssri etc are no longer the answer as more and more studies and doctors are now saying Propke are fed yup being mids lead by many psych
Of course it benifits pharma, they create the meds, who else is it going to benefit. And every article you read anywhere is based on biased opinions. Research data is neutral, its the person translating the information to publish to the public is where they insert their biased marketing schemes. Really gotta do your homework , eventually it is always a risk taking meds. As time goes on meds will improve.
Dr McMullen- what do you think of Dr. Breggin and his views on how horrible these drugs are for you??? So confused and suffering the side effects of going on and off drugs that don't work or you keep having to increase the dose. Thanks for mentioning Bipolar 2. I've also been on Benzos for 10 years- No One told me they were addictive. I did a test from Genesight and my doc told me I had a mutation that doesn't convert Folate into Folic acid. Oh you just mentioned it (L-Methyfolate). The only issues is it's very expensive.I think people are just leary about the drug companies. I like that you include nutrition. What do you think of adding SAM-E(like Dr. Brown's books) that work on all the transmitters and can be added to meds. Also, sorry, I don't have major insurance so what about these home devices to stimulate Serotonin.?
You stopped taking it? You are suppose to taper down. No wonder you experience withdrawal. But the fact that you felt better, that meant the medication did what it was suppose to do. Now your serotonin had been elevated back to normal levels.
+Frank Lopez not true, some depressed people dont react at all to anti depressants....benzos are MUCH better for me, but only taken when needed not everyday.....but antidepressants are the worst, horrible side effects, they eventually stop working and you are even worse than what you were before taking them.....they just mess deeply with my brain and make me feel worse
I have general anxiety and panic disorder, PTSD but I'm not necessarily depressed I'm just stressed out and have a hard time coping but my doctor keeps trying different antidepressants even though every time it makes me worse or have horrible side effects.
Same here. Antidepressants and mood medications don’t seem to work with people who are more on the anxiety spectrum. My depression seems to come situational with stress/problems. I take a .5 of Ativan only when I need it. Sometimes I’ll break the .5 and take a little of that. I probably take it 2x a month. Then if I’m not stressing, it may be months. I try to stick to treating my anxiety naturally as much as I can. Best wishes to the both of you! :)
absolutely I have anxiety and benzos help me the most, but I only use them when I need them not every day.....anti depressants NEVER helped with my anxiety and panic they actually made me feel sad which I never felt before using them
Dear Dr. McMullen Wasn’t it not so far in the past, that psychiatrists would prescribe Amphetamines as last resort to lift a severe depression for those patients not responsive to the normal antidepressants available at that point in history? And the psychiatrists did find that patient improved tremendously. Or is this treatment no longer utilized? I am talking those that patients that are severely depressed and they suffer from no other psychiatric conditions.
or..........perhaps, depression is as normal as being happy ....and there is no f*cking reason to prescribe this poison to anyone...it's just a ridiculous profit scheme by the pharmaceutical companies and jack*ffs like you
Well yeah depression is normal but in a competitive society and need to work to survive, antidepressants helps those that are depressed. Many people with depression dont shower, dont get out of bed, dont socialize, have bad eating habits, etc, antidepreasants gives them the motivation to function. Some people are naturally low on natural chemicals the brain produces. I do however think that taking meds should only be temporary unless otherwise.
Or, it is an intervention for people that have, or are planning, to kill themselves. It may also be that many physicians that have no business managing neurological diseases wind up prescribing medicines for them.
Doc do you tell your patients how hard it willb be to come off or how much damage Klonopine can be and bipolar is so subjective there is no test for bipolar There is no proof depression is a chemical imbalance in fact no one really knows how ssri work This is basicly all guess work my the psych community
i want to ask you something. i used drug sevella many times at the last 3 years i used it changed the doses and many time stopped it and back and stop. now i feel this drug lost the efficacy the good feel that was with that drug was gone now its make me more calm but good mood no more. is it the changes i made with the drug made it not efficacy anymore?
I'm 22 been on antidepressants off and on 8 year's I can't find one that works well they have all somewhat worked except Wellbutrin it made my anxiety worse. I've been diagnosed with panic disorder with agrophobia, gad and depression. Been on lexapro, zoloft, paxil, cymbalta, Wellbutrin and propranolol never been on two meds at once not sure what to do.
Hello i have been on every anti depression medication and i have no benefit from eather of them, i also have very painful feet and legs all the time and i think its because i have sever depression and anxiety, i have been to doctors and they cant find any physical problem with me. i feels like there is no tomorrow for me anymore. Every day when i wake up and going up from the bed pain like hell, just to go in the kitchen and put on the water fells like it burning from the inside. everything is painful no matter what i do. right now iam on Lyrica 450mg, oxascand 30 mg and Zolpidem for my sleep problems. but there dont work on my depression. i say your video and you named Amitriptylin. i have tryed Klomipramin but with no benfeit at all, so what shall i do. its not easy to socials when you are in these agony 24/7. i have a mild asbergers syndrom but thats not the issue here i function well otherwise. what do you think i should do?
I tried all medication nothing helped I live in jordan and I can’t get much help here , I’m giving up on life now can you help me , ciprelax 20 ,valdoxan 50 ,Amex 100 , remeron , willbutrin , lamictal, indicardent, Paxil 20 and much more
Here's a few people pointing this out..
And a reminder to you, doctor, that the antipsychotics can create symptoms that appear to you doctors to be both the negative and positive symptoms of "schizophrenia." Symptoms that can appear to be the negative symptoms of "schizophrenia" can be created via NIDS. And symptoms that can appear to be the positive symptoms of "schizophrenia" (like psychosis) can be created via antidepressant and/or antipsychotic induced anticholinergic toxidrome.
But since neither of these medically known psychiatric drug induced syndrome are listed in your DSM, these psychiatric drug induced toxidrome are always misdiagnosed by the doctors as one of the billable DSM disorders.
And just a reminder, all your DSM disorders were confessed to be scientifically "invalid" by the head of the National Institute of Mental Health in 2013.
Antidepressants are medications that can help relieve symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia, or mild chronic depression, as well as other conditions.
They aim to correct chemical imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain that are believed to be responsible for changes in mood and behavior.
Depression Medications (Antidepressants)
These are the most commonly prescribed type of antidepressant.
Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are used to treat major depression, mood disorders, and possibly but less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, and chronic neuropathic pain.
SNRIs raise levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters in the brain that play a key role in stabilizing mood.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
