“Simply Thankyou” Introduction: After more than twenty years of fighting depression, many psychologists and many psychiatrists and so many cycles of medication, this simple personal insight brought me home! To all those beautiful people who have suffered from depression I would like to say “Thankyou, Simply Thankyou” for doing such a wonderful job. Thankyou for being such beautiful and courageous messengers , such shining beacons! I hear your pain , I have felt your pain, and now I hear your message and I hear it loud and clear for your message is simply the pain of humanity and the way it has to live now. The way we are living now is so wrong, so wrong, there is so little human-ness left in the way we live. We need to change, and we need to change now! So now relax in the knowing of a job well done, your message has been heard, that there has never been anything wrong with you, you are simply a gifted messenger! I know that place you go to; that deepening, darkening tunnel, which you shuffle down with trembling knees, and your body full of terror and panic. I know that place you go to, where the tunnel ends, where your bare feet are on solid ground but your toes are dangling over nothingness, an empty abyss, and it is so dark and frightening. Then dimly just ahead there is a feint outline, misty at first, that slowly forms into a shape, a doorway, and it's only about five feet away. And I know that moment when you are rocking on the balls of your feet, trying to decide wether to jump or not. “ I wonder if I can leap across in one bound or shall I take a few steps back and take a running jump?” Then for some reason, you stop rocking and plant your heels firmly back on the ground, and from somewhere deep, deep inside you grab hold of something primal, something essential and you turn around facing back the way you came and take a deep breath. I thank you in this moment for choosing to return to life rather than taking the leap of death. All ahead is blackness and you squint your eyes and then dimly percieve a minute spec of light, so small you are not sure it is real at all. So you slowly retrace your steps, and that little spec of light gets bigger and bigger as you shuffle fearfully upwards. You are heading back to the light and it is your light, and it is getting brighter and brighter until it's the colour of Cornish Ice cream and you can feel it's warmth enfold you, and suddenly you are out of the tunnel, back in the gallery of life. So you take your light and sit down, and relax and look back at where you came from. The tunnel is gone, the entrance has been bricked over, then plastered over and some artists have painted a mural over the place honouring the purpose of the tunnel. You are Home, you are safe! Well done and Simply Thankyou! Namaste' Bob and Barnaby Eden. Woof.

The gentleman is absolutely right. If you get cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise and meditate every day, you're depression is going to go away.

I just came off 28 yrs of antidepressants this Jan 2018. I’m concerned based on what the gentleman said regarding the being on ADs for only weeks and relapse. Have I done irreparable harm? I’m also coming off valium after 2 yrs, tapering slowly at 10mg. I’m terrified.

Good Luck! You're very brave

Harm or not, the main Problem are the Pseudosciences as Psychology or Sociology. You can't measure happiness, sorrow, wellness etc. hence Psychology is not science. End of story, Boot them from academia !

Agree that benzos are the worst to come off of. I have done both. Do one at a time, very gradually. Mad In America website and Inner Compass initiative can lead you to resources. Get help. If your doctor does not understand that those meds need very gradual tapering, find someone who understands this and is familiar with the Ashton Manual (google it). Best of luck. Hang in there.

Just dont do it alone.Talk to your doctor and by all means take your time.Even if it takes you years to get off you should do it as slowly as your body/mind accepts.Make small drops and stay on it for enough time till you fell you are stable again.this can take from 2 weeks to many months. If you thinks the cut was pretty big and the withdrawals are unbearable go back to your last stable dose, stay on it till you feel stable and then cut for lower. Its a process that will take some time but its the safest way to do it. and again ask your doctor for guidance. Hope you are doing fine 4 months after your comment.

I suffered from severe depression when pregnant with my second child. This was also not the first time I fell into such deep depression. Anti depressants saved my life, because I would have taken my own life if I didn't get better. I am healthy and fit and exsersise every single day. even through being depressed, thinking it would help..... I wonder if these doctors ever experienced depression first hand? I don't want to be on these meds my whole live, but can't put my marriage and life on the line for trying some alternative that might help. what if I stop using these meds and end up taking my own life? if there is a therapists worth his salt, please let me know, cause in my experience ,talking about feelings, haven't solved anything.

Ravinder Ok thanks.

It’s irrelevant whether they’ve been depressed themselves, they are trying to make sense of the data. They’re looking at populations, not telling *you* to do anything.

Dave Blasko, yup, think we're screwed....
Dave Blasko (6 месяцев назад)
He says one relapses after coming off ADs. So should we stay on them? Are we screwed? I’ve come off in Jan 2018 after 28 yrs. am I a lost cause?
Dave Blasko (6 месяцев назад)
It’s interesting. None of these panelists respond. Did you see the disclaimer at the beginning. And then the bravado of the gentleman. Answer our questions.

That's so true. I received therapy for my problems and my sister's did not. My three sister's are emotionally constipated and remain so to this day. The hard part is having to separate myself from my sister's as they try like crazy to get me back to a place of emotional constipation!
