Jordan Bernt Peterson is a Canadian clinical psychologist, cultural critic, and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. His main areas of study are the psychology of religious and ideological belief, and the assessment and improvement of personality and performance.
He earned a degree in political science in 1982 and a degree in psychology in 1984, both from the University of Alberta, and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from McGill University in 1991. He remained at McGill as a post-doctoral fellow for two years before moving to Massachusetts, where he worked as an assistant and an associate professor in the psychology department at Harvard University. In 1997, he moved to the University of Toronto as a full professor.
Dr. Jordan B Peterson has been a dishwasher, gas jockey, bartender, short-order cook, beekeeper, oil derrick bit re-tipper, plywood mill labourer and railway line worker. He’s taught mythology to lawyers, doctors and businessmen, consulted for the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel on Sustainable Development, helped his clinical clients manage depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and schizophrenia, served as an advisor to senior partners of major Canadian law firms, identified thousands of promising entrepreneurs on six different continents, and lectured extensively in North America and Europe.
He has flown a hammer-head roll in a carbon-fiber stunt plane, piloted a mahogany racing sailboat around Alcatraz Island, explored an Arizona meteorite crater with a group of astronauts, built a Native American Long-House on the upper floor of his Toronto home, and been inducted into the coastal Pacific Kwakwaka’wakw tribe.
With his students and colleagues, Dr. Peterson has published more than a hundred scientific papers, transforming the modern understanding of personality, and revolutionized the psychology of religion with his now-classic book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief. As a Harvard professor, he was nominated for the prestigious Levinson Teaching Prize, and is regarded by his current University of Toronto students as one of three truly life-changing teachers.

I've tried to listen to this guy several times, and each time he basically takes 10-20 minutes seeking to intellectualize something (usually a misogynistic trope), which could be set out in 1-2 minutes. TBH, I'd probably glean more of an insight from the Comments Section. BTW, men aren't oppressed. Get over it. #EmperorsNewRobes
it's always nice to hear something you know and understand but can't articulate yourself, articulated so eloquently. well rounded men do have that air of grace and compassion, because they and all who witness it understand quite clearly that if you cross that line , fury awaits you, a true and just fury you dare not provoke.
By definition there can only be one true Alpha and everyone else is beta. I suppose you can try to reduce it into small groups, but then you might just have the alpha/betas of those sub groups.
Also we switch roles quite often depending on each situation. Someone might be in charge in one area and not in another area. The best you can do in those cases is just be very adept to what's going on and respond accordingly.
How would this depressed, anxiety-riddled, scrawny liberal ("boohoo, muh individualism!") know how not to be beta? He is clearly extremely beta. His daughter puts up half-naked pictures of herself on Instagram. That's a sure sign of a beta father. It's really sad that so many people look up to this pathetic man, especially when his advice is just common sense platitudes. For those of you who haven't figured it out yet: just act like a man. It's that simple.
kinda sad that the term alpha and beta are misconceived.
Because in fact the Alpha is the leader of the pack, there can only be 1 Alpha.
The Beta's are actually the common soldiers, so even the second strongest of the group is a Beta.
Beta's arent losers, they can be strong too. A more appropiate term for a loser would be a Gamma, because the Gamma is an outcast.
I would say as a man I'm channeling my anger and bitterness at the way western society is leaning now by listening to intellectuals like Jordan and acting out my beliefs as needed. It's almost like a process, gotta let it grow after the initial cultivation. It's important to try to learn the truth of things to better yourself and as a consequence others. It does makes me very sad that there are those who don't do this and let their anger twist them until they blow up and as a result makes them do terrible things.
Most likely faking happiness but dealing much pain, searchn''' for the rainbow but there's too much rain & pain! 😞
Sex, music & weed relive some of our internal pain. Doesn't matter rich or poor!! Stop fronting & lying has helped.
This video reminds me of the Sarah Bareilles song Be Brave where one of the lyrics goes, "say what you want to say, and let the words fall out. Honestly, I want to see you be brave." This is for guys watching: if you want to score hot chicks like Sarah, you have to be brave by speaking honestly and saying what's on your mind rather than suppress what you have to say because you're scared of offending people or risking negative reactions that you feel you can't handle.
I've been suffering for over 12 years now. I grew up one of the angriest, alpha dudes I've ever encountered. My father was an invincible guy in my eyes, and when I watched cancer rip through him, ... watched simply walking break his bones, ... and had to carry him, until he died... I lost all footing, became unbelievably insecure and fragile. 12 years later and I've never recovered. I'm paranoid about upsetting people, or doing the wrong thing, as though some hell has a claim on my soul if I don't right my path. ...like I'm paying the piper now before judgement has passed, because my mortal end is around the corner. I have not had an outburst of anger in all these years. Anything that would make me angry, now just reduces me to sadness. I want to be my own person again. I want to recover the right to be angry about something and to stand my ground when something isn't cool. ... I want to be able to face adversity again, and not clutch my chest with a glass of Jameson when I get in the door. I'm open to book recommendations, advice, or even if someone wants to be a prick and rip into me for being how I am - anything that could divert me off the course I'm on.
I'd say watch all the Jordan Peterson videos you can and rewatch them all again, dots will start to connect from all the different content and you'll already have the critical thinking and abstract thought to be able to apply everything he's been saying to yourself.
It might take a couple of weeks or months before switches start clicking, but everytime you have a revelation the gears will turn a little more, after 6 months you'll be an entirely different person.
I believe people have a hard time living in this world that just seems to be awash of randomness. I think being able to articulate chaos you can put it into words where you went wrong and why. Once you understand that then you have the footing to be able to change the entire course of your life.
Oh yeah, also Jordan has a program called the self authoring suite I'd highly recommend for you.
Meek's Greek use in the Bible is under the word πραεῖς
It's understandable why meek's connotations in English denote weakness, but that isn't necessarily the original use of πραεῖς. It's actually a term for obedience, not weakness. It applies to horses. If a horse is safe, calm and obeys commands, it's πραεῖς... and the translation "meek" was chosen as the best fit.
So, basically, "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." means, "The obedient servants of God are fortunately so... because will inherit the Earth".
The common use of the word was with horses... and the connotations are questionable as to the tone... particularly whether πραεῖς implied having respectable power like a horse... or whether it implied having a mind and ego that was pliant... like a domesticated horse.
Meek, on the other hand, clearly wasn't specific to creatures with power.
It's amazing how slight translation differences can corrupt a message.
Don't get it twisted. This man is a brilliant fool. His points are dangerous. Fear, Resentment, Dishonesty and Selfishness are not Truth. Be careful when you listen to someone who disguises evil with heady arguments.
Video title = Clickbait.Mister Peterson please stop refering to Jung if your intentions are to mislead and confuse people in order to promote your agenda cause it's obvious that either you have no idea about Jung's work, ideas and morality or you're doing it on purpose. What did Jesus mean by "meek" ? oh God really ? i'm Greek btw so please stop making up false meanings of our language.Alpha Beta Gamma Delta blah blah blah Omega.Nonsense.
Pretty interesting, I think JP has something here. When I was a young man I thought being a nice guy would attract the ladies. I think most young men get confused(Like I was) that being nice is attractive attribute. JP stated that we must develop our dark side. After thinking about this and reflecting on my life, I concluded that I'm not so nice after all. I think it is good for self growth to think about this. Knowing yourself makes you more attractive, because I think this creates confidence, not fake confidence. Also knowing yourself grounds you, and that state of mind is what everyone notices.
This SHOULD be true, but why do I see so many emasculated beta hipster boys with women who are WAY out of their league. The media seems to glorify a fat, stupid, gyno-males, and these women seem to find comfort in the power factor in the relationship. They are afraid, or are now taught to avoid confident alfa-dominant men. I see more hispanic women who still accept and respect the old cultures that used to glorify masculinity and femininity. American women and men seem to be trying to switch roles, ruining what you're trying to preach.
The mind can’t retain negation. So for a guy so smart to name this segment
“How not to become a beta male” might mean he is creating beta males.
Think “Just say no to drugs” and look at the after effects. The mind can’t retain negation. So all that’s left for the mind to feast on is how to become a beta make. But I have a feeling you know that. He could’ve named this segment how to stay strong in the role of leadership. All positive words no double talk NLP bull shit to parse through. C’mon now. Wherever awareness goes energy flows. So why cue the awareness to not becoming a beta?
This title is highly suspicious.
You know what I like about Peterson? In order to correctly convey what he means with the right words, he'll stop talking for a moment to find those words, even if it means starting the sentence over entirely. He talks as if typing on a typewriter, as though every word he uses legitimately matters. Many people could learn from that.
Oh the irony, a beta male describing himself without realizing it. Mr. “ I eschew the alt right and nationalism because of “muh Hitler “ and “muh holohoax”. There is a war being waged against white nations by jews and he won’t acknowledge it even after he was targeted. Who the hell does he think started all this “identity politics”? He acts like he doesn’t even realize that what underpins all of identity politics is “muh holohoax” because they will make anyone who stands up to their anti white male agenda a non person byinsinuating they are a Nazi .
Jordan Peterson is a self described strict traditionalist. Ignore everything he says on this subject. His mind is stuck in the 1950s and wants men to act like it's the 1950s and doesn't give a fuck about how women act in 2018. He doesn't realize that society and culture has evolved and changed such that if any men take his advice; they'll end up worse than when they started listening to him.
He talks a lot about what is or isn't attractive between men and women. Here's something that turns both men and women: someone who motor mouths relentlessly as if he knows everything. I feel sorry for his wife and kids. Put a sock in it, dude.
I feel like the man speaks directly to me its so crazy. Alot of the stuff he talks about i have not only thought about, but applies directly to me and the situations I'm put through in my life. Im just glad that there is someone out there who has put alot of time and effort thinking about these kind of things because it is things that i think about that i feel no one around me likes to talk about.
okay, lets say I want to find out what is hiding under my persona, what should I do? its like lots of talks about "if you look at yourself in a mirror you might run away" stuff, but how do I find out? am I that kind of a persona and to what degree? what should I read? thanks
Looking for meanings by means of guessworx and drugs didn't get him that far to realize there were roman soldiers around when the mountain sermon was held and people less uneducated than Jordan Peterson tend to remember what happened to the not so meek Simon bar Kokhba. Something the canadian crackpot did not get in his 40 years of thinking about it.
Goldenhotdogs, I agree with you that the terms "Alpha and Beta" are merely terms used to point to an idea or a reality. Everything is relative. But to answer your question, an example might be someones bone density, height, metabolism, or mental capabilities.
Can someone tell me if I'm interpreting this correctly?
So Doctor Peterson is saying everyone has bitterness, resentment and dark thoughts in general. The Strong people can be dangerous when they need to be and if there more reserved they can do this by speaking up and saying how they feel but weak people take these same thoughts and emotions and use them to hurt people by trying to seem strong?
> how Jordan thinks so much before he says the next word
Yeah, he thinks and thinks, for at least 40 years, and then he thinks some more, until he suddenly reveals, he is just another idiot who didn't get that the sermon on the mountain was held under roman control. Being stupid as a rock is truely brillant in the eyes of those who are even stupider than that.
Antidepressants are medications that can help relieve symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia, or mild chronic depression, as well as other conditions.
They aim to correct chemical imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain that are believed to be responsible for changes in mood and behavior.
Depression Medications (Antidepressants)
These are the most commonly prescribed type of antidepressant.
Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are used to treat major depression, mood disorders, and possibly but less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, and chronic neuropathic pain.
SNRIs raise levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters in the brain that play a key role in stabilizing mood.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
