Quetiapine is a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic. It’s approved by the FDA for schizophrenia, acute bipolar mania/mixed and depression, and bipolar maintenance (as an add-on to lithium or divalproex). The extended-release form is also approved as an add-on for depression.
Though its approved uses are limited, it’s widely used off-label as a single therapy for depression, anxiety, insomnia, OCD, and other conditions.

Therefore, it only makes sense to provide real education free from propaganda.

The Drug Classroom You have a fucking nerve asking for donations you're either an ignorant pharma puppet or an evil money hungry drug pusher (or both) go give these Neuro toxins to your family members and watch what happens if you believe they "help " people. Karma comes to all sooner or later don't know how you sleep at night
+KingBee Exactly ! Psychotropic drugs are one of the biggest crimes against humanity(guineypigs) Big pharma is making billions$$$$ destroying lives with these neurotoxins that are neither safe or effective and that's a fact.Seroquil can cause heart attacks, stroke, raise cholesterol increase risk of dementia ...I could go on. I urge people to try a keto diet before before taking these dangerous poisons they are not a cure
its awesome for knocking you out.Just dont take in the day. it stops hallucinations. it makes you hungry and thirsty 30 minutes after taking again not a problem if your a bodybuilder Alcohol is less effective if taking with this drug. take a mood stabiliser like a ssri regularly for daytime. all in all a good med if used correctly. its not addictive. IF TAKEN DURING THE DAY AT BEST YOU'LL SLUR TOUR WORDS AND BE MUSCULARLY RELAXED AND WEAK. AT WORST YOUR CRASH OUT IN BED AND HAVE A GOOD SLEEP FOR 5 HOURS. Overdosing results in heart palpitations as the brain panics due to repressed heart rate during sleep. again only if its a large overdose,
Dunno what all the fear-mongering comments are about.
I've been taking 12.5mg (half a 25mg tablet) for insomnia each night for the last month. After some teething problems the first week (nightmares, huge problems waking up the next day/wanting to sleep forever) I've since climatised. I think it's a great drug at lower doses and I don't intend to be on it forever.
I have insomnia, I used this for several years and it worked great for me but my doc took me off it because of a drug interaction with other meds I was on. I still never slept more than 5 hours at a time.
A person I know was given Quetiapine 300mg yesterday for the first time and the nurse said from tomorrow the patient will be given 600mg. I am concern about the side effects from epilepsy to sudden death. I have looked at nhs website. Please message me if you have been given 300mg increased to 600mg within two days. Was there any worst side effects. How did you manage? The patient complained today that last night she had severe frozen knees and the excruciating pains that never felt in her life before.
I have been on this for 10 years and it was great, it helped turn my life around drastically. but, I find it impossible to stop taking. For 5 years I have been trying to stop taking it but I just can't sleep at all without it. I reduced from large dose to just 50mg for the last 2 years, but I still can't stop taking it.
I can only imagine how many people that have taken Seroquel on here saying negative stuff about it dont realise that it either didnt work for them, or they didnt have the right structure to get the full benefits. Even the most bi polar people out there only need 300mg MAX daily. I also bet alot of you kept upping or changing the dose. Seroquel for me saved my life, its amazing if you need it.
Helps me sleep but I feel like a zombie on it. Only been on it for a week (100mg a night). I will have to get off it because I just can't function. Then there's the weight gain (already up 8 lbs) and future diabetes, etc. that I just can't deal with. Why would any self respecting doc prescribe this horrible drug??!
Has anyone ever got Diabetes because of this? My brother did and he was one of the people in the Class Action Lawsuit. He got a settlement. He went off of it and he no longer has Diabetes. My daughter was put on it and now she has been diagnosed with Diabetes and high Cholesterol.
They prescribed me 100mg of seroquel for a sleep aid and mood stabilizer and the first night I took it was a night to remember. I took the pill and laid In bed waiting for it to kick in. Well about 30 min after taking it my heart started to race and beat extremely fast and hard. I felt sick. I started losing my vision. It all went blurry. I felt alone and scared. That one night has seriously made me worse off than before. I'm way to scared to try it again. The next day I felt like a zombie but not only that I had the same feeling the day after. My heart started to race and beat hard. And I started to have the same symptoms as the night be the night before. While I was DRIVING! So no more of this medication for me.
You will feel no “zombie-like” after using 3week or more.
But personally, as I take this 200mg a day,I crave for fast food like hungry prisoner. Try smoking weed and take this pill. More CEV and faster sleep.
I used to take this medication it helped me with my anxiety my panic disorder and depression only side effects I have from it was night terrors I use to take 100mg twice a day and they dropped it down 100 mg once at night I felt what a zombie for the first week but after that I start feeling a little better my mood changed my thoughts became more clear kind of regret suddenly stopping this cause once you been on it for a long period of time you must gradually reduce your dose after talking with your doctor about it but I just stopped cold in the withdrawals was a damn nightmare for about a few months having panic attacks and extreme anxiety depression and suicidal but that's just cause I stopped cold without even Consulting my doctor about it which is one of the biggest mistakes i be made other than that I could say this was a pretty good medication for me at the time side to side effects which was it really that bad but I want to want to get back on this medication but my high anxiety and panic tard especially since I overthink everything and I remember there withdrawals which was horrible
This medication should be taken off the market. People are even starting to abuse it. Also, using it for insomnia is not recommended at all. Same with anxiety disorders. I'm Bipolar 1 and a few years ago I was put on 800 mgs. Of this garbage. I went off haldol a few months ago and was put on Seroquel 50 mgs. B.i.d.- still have awful side effects. To those who take it- BE CAREFUL! Also- it's pronounced Clozapin ( first second generation Anti-psychotic). Nice educational video though.
I HATE Seoquel. But i hate it because what my experience was with it. 1 x 300MG to help me for sleeping...A zombie for almost 48hours!! God i'm happy to have a good doctor no since 2009 and love my flunitrazepam boxes i get every 3 weeks. That helps me good. Good sleep and always fresh in the morning :). Sorry for the bad english gramar.
I’ve tried to come off this drug twice. Both attempts have been unsuccessful. This drug has changed me in ways that I never thought possible. Do not take this if you have the choice. It knocks you out, it can give you diabetes, it can change your blood pressure, make you gain weight and so much more. And when you come off it, you might that you’ve developed insomnia and you might even experience mild psychosis
I was prescribed this yesterday for my bipolar just 25mg to take 1 in the morning and afternoon and two before going to bed since i also have hard time sleeping but holy fuckkk it works fast its like sleeping pill to the extreme but woke out feeling kind of awful not bad or good i only took one before going to bed even tho i was supposed to take 4 cuz i did some research no wonder its prescipred for mania cause its stops mania in the track
I have borderline. I'm on the lowest dose to sleep. It controls my emotional instability including anger HOWEVER as it wears off I become totally semi-psychotic for a few hours. I'm torn whether to keep taking it or give it up and just accept sleep once every three days.
when I was in quantico marine corps brig.. they give this and other hard antipsychotics to at least 60% of the population. . made me nod out during the day, eat probably 6x more food than normal, and have jugular vein distention. I honestly feel taking it for a few months messed up my brain. 200mg 3x a day .... thanks US government.
I am finding quetiapine to be very effective. I think I was overdue for being put on this drug. I am sleeping better. I am alert for the entire day. My thinking is clearer. I am on a very low dose. This is my first week with it. I am only speaking for myself about it. What works for me may not be what will work for someone else. My condition is bipolar disorder. The diagnosis was made 23 years ago.
The majority of these comments are really negative but I take a low dose of the extended release version of this drug and it’s seriously saved my life- if you’re here watching this video because you were just prescribed this medication, don’t be discouraged or scared by the negative reviews! Keep an open mind, different things work for different people
I wouldn't take it alone, but I use it with a medication that makes you speed hyper. First day on it I moved everything in my livingroom bms. It works amazing to calm that down to a regular level. I suggest using it with something that gives you an excess of energy so it won't make you lethargic or zombie-ish. And look into if its XL or not and if you are taking it before bed (which helps to not make you day drowsy).
lets see, its given me stomach problems, a permanent cold, and mixed with alcohol.... even 4 pints makes me vomit shitloads... im not taking it anymore!! im guessign im the only person with these side effects.. although stomach problerms and runny nose are in the leflet... but i cant stop blowing my fucking nose !!
i was put on this when i was 14 for depression and bipolar and it was terrible. i would have bad sleep paralysis from it. i would be paralized before i even fell asleep and was having bad nightmares. amd i gained 20lbs in like 2 weeks. i havent taken it in 13 years.
I've been on 100mg of this for 5 years. Never really noticed any side effects or problems other than I can't sleep without it. But every night after I take it I sleep like a baby and it doesn't make me groggy anymore. I started off at 25mg and had crazy dreams/nightmares at first and also woke up groggy but I think your body just needs time to get used to it and those affects go away. For me anyway.
Perhaps that is a conceivable effect, but I cannot possibly list all of the effects that'll only occur in an exceedingly small percentage of people, especially when they have, at most, an anecdotal connection to the drug.
I've been taking 200mg seriously and 225mg effexor effexor during day Seroquel at night I've been on these since 2008 I used to be a walking fight machine and always risky extreme everything but on these drugs I stopped fighting in the streets stop risky behavior think more clearly more patience and i listen to people but I gained a lot of weight but I manage what I eat watch my numbers. And see my dr every 3mo
I was put on this for Drug induced psychosis mixed with severe depression from (Ro)accutane the acne medication.
I am a hairdresser and was put on 20mg of valium, 150mg of seroquel and an SSRI I have forgotten the name of everyday for 6 months.
I was a fucking literal zombie at work, was so hard to do my job, didn't help me in anyway, and I tried to overdose after an episode on 5 full tablets and a few other broken bits I had (around 800mg+) my poor ex girlfriend had to watch me as I went completely pareletic and blacked out ( thinking I had killed myself) . Apparently it is fatally "overdose proof" as some people will use up to 1000mg once tolerance builds up..
I woke up only an hour later completely pareletic still as my girlfriend tried to feed me yogurt or something (not sure why..) as I couldn't move at all but my eyes and slightly my mouth I think she was trying to help me get moving again.. ( the poor girl).. i, miserable that I had woken up...
Managed to completely get off of all medications 2 weeks later and tried other anti depressants to no avail. But 4 years later am on nothing still depressed but coping no psychosis as it was related to coming off of the accutane after a un monitored 16months of being on it.
The stupid doctor shouldn't have ever put me on all that shit in the first place as he blamed it on schitzophrenia and not accutane. But I'm fine now and have never had an episode like that ever again. Im sure if I had stayed on seroquel I'd definitely have some long term mental disorder much worse than just severe depressive disorder, but in no way is it worth taking g something like this that will make you feel more insane when you are on it and coming off of it. Also DO NOT TAKE ACCUTANE UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD A PRIVATE WELL REGARDED DERMATOLOGIST. NEVER STAY ON IT FOR LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS. That skin medication is the devil.
Sleeping 14 HOURS a day and needed a 2/nap because I was groggy... Gained 75 lb, because of this stuff I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and thank God for Medicare... this stuff was before the generic version came out with $750+/a month... And between all the other stuff they put me on.... Probably took 10 years off my life... I say this once and one time only...

No more takingthis poisonous crap, down my throat...and giving me problems that I never had before taking this stuff.
Brilliant presentation sir, I went to refill my amitriptyline and valium last week and came out with a prescription for quetiapine too for insomnia, ramped up 25mg a day to maintain at 75mg and yep, it does the job, slept like a log last night for the first time in ages, even had a pleasant dream 😊 makes my tummy grumble abit though 😅
Make sure you have thyroid, glucose and lipid (cholesterol) levels checked on this drug no less than 1x/year. It works but can come at a great cost physically. Stay safe and good luck! P.S. NEVER go cold turkey. Instead taper really slowly. Take years if you need to.
LebanonDon Is it a 300mg Seroquel XR (extended release) or immediate release? Extended release is over the course of the day and immediate release would be 300mgs all at once. Cutting it in half doesn't guarantee a perfect 150mg dose, only approximate half. Being that you've never taken it before, I would definitely cut it in half and take at night. 300mgs all at once for your first time could give you a stuffy nose, heart racing, trouble breathing or swallowing, drooling, and sleeping for 10hrs more or less.
I dont know how the drug reacts with withdrawal. It could be dangerous for all I know. This drug has the potential to knock a person out for 10+hrs, even with just one dose. Careful not to keep taking it. It's not a sleeping pill even though it is really effective in knocking you out. You will become dependent on it if you keep taking it and insomnia will become your new affliction.
It is a good drug for addiction as well but definitely dont self-medicate if you plan on taking it as a drug treatment. Continued use also requires regular sugar, thyroid and cholesterol monitoring by blood test.
So can you take it 2 or 3 nights to get through the worst of withdrawal? Yes! Should you take 300mgs or cut it in half? I would say cut it in half and if that doesn't do anything, try the 300mgs the next night.
Being that it can increase your heart rate and you're already probably going to have heart rate fluctuations from withdrawal, idk that I would touch the stuff or at least do it under the supervision of a medical professional. They dont understand the effects of this drug, its true, but its safer than doing it alone based on what you read online... plus you can have a lawsuit if you get hurt doing it under a doctor's directions.
My psychiatrist left me on this hideous drug for 3 years because he misdiagnosed me as bipolar when I had ADHD all along. This is one of the top 3 most dangerous big pharma drugs that there is and I felt like a zombie. It made my teeth loose and led to gum disease, therefore I had to have many teeth pulled, and now I can't even chew. It also ruined my joints and I now have arthritis in my back and all my joints. When I finally stopped taking this f*cking drug, my gums healed up in a month and arthritis stopped spreading. Too bad I couldn't SUE either the doctor or the drug company for ruining my life. Never take Zyprexa, Seroquel or Risperdal.
From my own experience: If you can don't use Quentiapine. Its great for serious illnesses but not for things like insomnia, anxiety and other conditions that isn't psychosis or mania. It really makes you hungry, the weight gain is incredibly hard to avoid when you take it. It makes you feel tired so its hard to make your self workout so you can control your weight. Its also very tranquilizing, I cant imagine driving or even riding a bicycle when this stuff is in your system. Its definitely not the drug for treating sleeping problems, benzos or other sleeping medication can be harmful, but not the way this drug is. Avoid it if you can.
im in a german rehab Center and i propably hate neuroleptics but with the POLAMIDON( Kind of METHADON ) the SEROQUEL has a very nice effect , its nearly like Smoking a bong-head with Cannabis , you even have this hungry- /eating-flash which and youre Kind of stoned, so its very much like weed with 2 weeks non Smoking now. - i use seroquel since yesterday
I've suffered from Borderline for most of my life and have self-medicated with recreational drugs and prescriptions (over 61 different drugs, ranging from anti-psych to recreational drugs). I have found anti-psychs, SSRIs, SNRIs, and most anti-depressants (besides welbutrin) to only be troubling. They either/and alter my personality in a negative way or make me too tired and depressed to do anything. I find mood-stabilizers like lithium and lamictal (w/ lyrica) to be most effective for Borderline. They have a clean head effect with little reduction in normal emotion range and ability to function. Seroquel isn't ideal for me and only made me tired, hungry, and emotionally flat. Of course, this is by no means universal. But, I do feel that a troubling amount of people simply take what they're prescribed and forget to compare the before and after effects of the drug on personality with long term maintenance use. I found Zyprexa to be very similar in negative effect.
You do have to work extra hard just to NOT gain weight on it. I take 900mgs every night in an effort to calm down my brain. Been taking for over 10 years for Bipolar 1 disorder. I usually take it at 10pm (with Xanax and Atarax) and I am still up til 1-3am every night anyway. But, once I do fall asleep, I sleep like a rock for at least 6-7 hours.
so i am now on Seroquel for bipolar. I was put on 100mg. I just started noticing (after a month)I have had a HUGE increase in anger, I was told by a co-worker i blacked out in anger on him the other day. I even tried to kill myself while at work.... My issues since i started taking this pill has gone back to what i felt when i was in college before put on medications for bipolar. I've gone back to hearing things thinking about hearting myself or animals and looking for fights. I do love the sleep...but I have started sleeping about 10-11 hours....
I have OCD and I only need to take a 1/4 to maybe a half a pill. my obsessive thoughts and impulsive decisions immediately take a back seat. I only need it maybe twice a week, it’s take as needed. Life saver for me.
Antidepressants are medications that can help relieve symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia, or mild chronic depression, as well as other conditions.
They aim to correct chemical imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain that are believed to be responsible for changes in mood and behavior.
Depression Medications (Antidepressants)
These are the most commonly prescribed type of antidepressant.
Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are used to treat major depression, mood disorders, and possibly but less commonly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, and chronic neuropathic pain.
SNRIs raise levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters in the brain that play a key role in stabilizing mood.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. They are effective in treating depression, and they have fewer side effects than the other antidepressants.
SSRIs block the reuptake, or absorption, of serotonin in the brain. This makes it easier for the brain cells to receive and send messages, resulting in better and more stable moods.
They are called "selective" because they mainly seem to affect serotonin, and not the other neurotransmitters.
